A good clear out makes me realize how much “stuff” we all have… far too much!..I don’ t know where it all comes from…. I think we live in such a unique point in history, where producing and consuming is so prolific; we have more than any other generation that has ever existed….. and we still haven’t totally ‘broken’ planet earth.. but I think eventually we will have to slow down, and get used to having less again as we balance the world’s resources and real need.
yes i hate clutter. it has to be useful, sentimental or decorative or it is gone lol. i love the minimalist look but i have to keep things homey for my kids to feel like they live in a home, not a show house.
I do! I can’t stand the build up of clutter! I usually clean the shed out then the house….which fills the shed up again it’s not necessarily done in Spring time tho. Whenever the urge takes and the house is too full
Every 3 months I have a good clean out but once a year is my BIG spring clean!
Almost everything that is not nailed down goes haha!
During the year we accumulate so much junk & it is so refreshing to rid the home of some of it.
I have little flurries where I feel extra motivated so I’ll do mini ‘spring cleans’ a few times throughout the year. I couldn’t do the whole house at once though. I’d lose motivation.
We are spring cleaning at the moment, bub is due in December 2015 so we are trying to have a nice and clean house and backyard in time for when bub comes.
Yes, I align my spring clean with verge bulk rubbish collection BUT anything that can be used by women’s refuges I take direct to them. Eg children’s clothes, sheets, towels, good quality games etc. they can’t take all as very limited storage, but the rest is great for charity organisations. Good opening for talking about these issues with kids too.
I give away books I know I will never read again, friends have also read and returned. I normally donate them to a worthwhile charity. I keep childrens’ books until the children outgrow them. I buy books for them to read here. They have plenty at home so they don’t want to read them at home too. There are plenty of Childrens’ charities which are willing to accept them. The kids are very gentle with them so sometimes they look as though they haven’t been used. I have given away some toys they have outgrown to a friend who now has grandchildren who they will be suitable for later. The lady loaned me some that had belonged to her children when they were little which I returned to her as our kids outgrew them.
