Hello!

I was thinking of getting a jumping castle for a child’s birthday party but thought twice when I heard about a friends child died through suffocation at 4. What are your views on these. Are there other safety concerns?

  • Make sure you hire from a reputable company with high safety standards and make sure there is plenty of supervision.

  • That is so sad to hear .My kids went to a lot of jumping castles , but when they were small , it was always the small ones and I find it uncomfortable when bigger kids jump in with the small kids so I was always more worried about that and the size of the castle .

  • i think there should be a limit of number of children depending on how big and closely supervised at all times

  • I think…….how many parties and social events do you see jumping castles at? And how often do you hear of a tragedy involving them? They are perfectly safe with adequate adult supervision

  • There has been a few accidents with them, often caused by windy weather, especially when it gusty, not just a constant moderate wind

  • I think they are. I have never head of an incident though. But its a risk just like everything else. My friend had one for her kids parties and the kids had a ball and there was never an issue. a very slim chance of anything happening

  • I think there’s risk with anything. What are the chances of something bad happening?? Probably quite slim.

  • Yes I don’t think that they are safe at all too!

  • I’ve had one for my son’s birthday for the last 3 years with no issues. Obviously all jumping castles should have someone supervising, and there are a few rules for the kids to follow. The castles are always a huge hit !!

  • Even if you got one now you wouldn’t relax having it. Maybe find another entertainment option just so you can enjoy the day, and it not be on your mind.

  • Gosh I’ve never heard of that and I wouldn’t think twice about getting one. I’m getting one for my sons 5th birthday.

  • if in doubt don’t do it, but if they are properly monitored with certain amount of kids in and same size kids in at one time then causality risk is minimised!

  • I’ve never heard of a death from a jumping castle. As others have said as long as there’s strict guidelines and constant supervision I think it’s fine. A friend recently had one at their engagement party and it was so fun. Depends on age and boysterourness of children… Sometimes big kids are careless with little kids so maybe have ‘big kid’ and ‘little kid’ turns

  • if you hire one they will set it all up etc so therefore it should be safe. If you buy one, read instructions and make sure it is all strapped down properly. Supervise and you should be fine.

  • When you have kids the key is supervision.
I have had many jumping castle parties over they years.
The rules are no eating, nothing in your hands when you get on.
Have fun get off to cool down when necessary.
Keep the numbers to a minimum to avoid a accident.
Should be a lot of fun.
