It seems that everytime that i buy crumpets, no matter where or what the date is on them, they go moudly very quickly. I wonder if this happens to anyone else. I have complained but all they do is refund my money and offer me more crumpets that I won’t take because they will go mouldy. Has anyone else had this experience?

  • I used to find that crumpets went off quickly until I kept them in the fridge. Haven’t had the problem at all now

  • I also keep them in the fridge. But they do change texture a bit. I think you just have to buy them when you intend to eat them and not store them. I’d prefer packs of 4 for this reason, because I often throw them out because they have gone hard in the fridge and I hate wasting them.

  • Wrapping well and refrigerating works well with me.

  • If I were you and this is a regular problem I would write an email to the customer enquiries for the actual company be it Tip Top or whoever and tell them what you are experiencing. The wrapping I believe for crumpets isn’t the most airtight.
They probably aren’t even aware of the problem or maybe they are, but the more feedback they get the more likely they will be to make a change. You will probably also be entitled to a refund.

  • I have had the same experience and overcame it by keeping the crumpets in the fridge but you must seal them up or you will have a reverse problem with them drying out.

  • Have you tried either wrapping them in glad wrap or keeping them in the fridge? There’s preservatives in them so I’m surprised that they are going mouldy.

  • We keep them in the fridge and as of yet have not had this issue. Hope you get it sorted

  • No I have never had a problem with them. However if I buy extra I split them into meal size for 1 and freeze them for a few days.

  • Oh! no! that is terrible! :( Maybe get them from another shop; if possible? Has the shop ever given you a valid reason as to why they go mouldy? Fruit and vegies I understand; as they can go mouldy quickly; but yummy crumpets! That’s just not right! Hope you get some good answers. :)

  • i keep them in the fridge too. i just meant that when i buy them, they are already mouldy. i will buy them on the day that i want them. i just try to buy the fresher ones but i don’t know what else to do. lol maybe where i live is so hot and humid, could have something to do with it. thanks for posting though

  • I keep them in the fridge until ready to use and do not have a problem with them.
