Just wondering do we all feel strange when we leave our children overnight, we spent our first night away from our children in eight years, felt so strange, I know it should happen more often but we don’t have reliable family, have you ever hired a babysitter overnight?

  • I think that’s normal. I love it when I’m kid free but I’ve never left him with a babysitter overnight. Only with my mum. I think I’d feel weird if it was a babysitter.

  • I feel nude without my babies. I have a 9 month old and 2.5 yr old. When my youngest was 3 months old my parents shouted us a romantic night away. I kept looking around, feeling like I had lost something. Even though I knew it was them. It’s amazing, when you have them you wish for 5 mins break, when you don’t have them you wish for them back. I know there’s plenty of companies offering Nanny services, I would prefer a friend or family member. That’s just me personally. I hope you can do the getaway more often. Good Luck.

  • Oh I love having a night away from the kids. It’s great to recooperate. But when I do mine are either with hubby (if I travel for work) or at grandparents or my sisters. In the school holidays they will often do 1 night at my parents and the next night at my sisters and they we have her kids for a night. It’s a great break and they have fun. My kids are 8 and 5.

  • I still feel like I’ve lost a limb when my daughter is away overnight and she’s 13! I’ve only ever used family or a close friend for babysitting and it doesn’t happen very often. Sorry I’m not much help

  • That’s normal to feel without kids. We also left my daughter in school sleepover for a night after 6 years, it felt very different.

  • Yes it’s weird. I can’t do it. My 3.5 year old only just had her first night away with family. Weird. I don’t understand how people can go away without their very young kids.

  • We have only used family for overnight stays. You could try recommendations from friends close by, but I’m a bit old-fashioned about leaving my kids with people I don’t know.
