I am a renter & luckily my house came with a water tank & I love it!
I pay all water costs so it has dramatically dropped & I love the rain water.
In a previous property we had an older tank which developed a hole (rusted through) down the bottom, the tank was full & flooded our whole yard, as well as all our neighbours. Was a major pain but thank fully was only the one time.
You can not beat rain water, no chemicals or yucky smell like the town water.
Hi, we have a rainwater tank. It was put in when we bought the house, so I’m not sure how much it was. So I can’t answer that part of your question. But in terms of whether it is useful, I can answer that part. We have it hooked up to our second toilet, so it uses the water from the tank rather than mains water. We also have it so we can water our garden with the tank water. It certainly saves us money come the warmer months when you need to water the garden all the time. So I would say yes, it’s is beneficial for us, and I would certainly recommend getting one to save on water usage and cost. I hope this was helpful to you!
We had three at one stage a few years ago. The large circular one was piped into the kitchen and laundry. We used it for drinking and cooking in the kitchen and for washing in the laundry. Our old automatic washing machine we could stop it and fill it with rainwater. The clothes smelt a lot fresher and kept their colour (coloured and whites) a lot better too. The other two were modular ones which collected water from our car garage and shed which the guys used for DIY jobs as the car garage didn’t have any spare space. That water was used for the gardens. We had a large backyard, grew some of our own vegetables and had frujit trees.
I have had a tank for a few years can’t remember how much it cost but would recommend one I don’t use house water outside I use the tank to water the garden wash the dog & car & fill the paddling pool saves heaps of money if you do get one I recommend getting a pump as well it will cost extra but is definitely worth it
My parents have a small one that wasn’t too expensive. They’ve had it for a few years and use it for their garden, washing the car etc and they’ve saved heaps on their water bill – not to mention the environment.
I have always had a rainwater tank, until recently. I miss my rainwater tank. From memory it was not too expensive and definitely worth it. I used it for watering the garden, cleaning the car and also for drinking, once it was put through a water filter to make sure there were no floaties. Living in a rental at the moment so cant put in a tank.
Thanks for the good comments so far; just want to be kinder to the earth and not consume so many resources and attempt to be more self sufficient. Thanks for the good tips.
