Hello!

My one year old hates going in her cot. She throws a tantrum and cries uncontrollably everytime. She used to sleep no problems in the cot but now as soon as I put her In the cot she screams and cries. The only way to get her to sleep is put her next to us and when she falls asleep we put her in the cot. I’m hoping someone would give me some tips to get her to sleep in her cot. Have anyone had any issues? what did you guys do to get them to sleep?

  • All you can do is sit with them until they fall asleep

  • I don’t have any additional ideas, but I just wanted to pass on that – This stage won’t go on forever. I promise that they will eventually go to sleep in their own bed. In a sleep deprived fog it is sometimes hard to see how that can happen, but it will :)

  • I’m sure eventually she will get over it. Keep trying regularly but if she doesn’t want to stay, don’t force her, it will just reinforce negative feelings with putting her in the cot

  • At the moment I would just go with what works for you and her to all get some rest. You don’t hear of adults still sleeping in their parents beds…lol. So she will get there,

  • Our son went through this at the same age, but we were just persistent and kept explaing that it was bed time and this is where you need to sleep. We have a times night light that stays on and plays soft music for 15 minutes and then turns off. We would leave the room, and then go back after 1 minute, reassure him, go back out. wait 2 minutes and repeat, increasing the minutes in between by 1 each time. We never got over 5 minutes and he quickly realised it was time for sleep. While I know this method isn’t for everyone, It worked well for us and with in 4 days was going to bed no worries, He is now 21 months and goes to bed at 7 and wakes up at 6:30/7am in the morning. Good luck, it’s so hard having kids and everyone will tell you something different. Just do what is right for you and your baby, as we are all different and what may work for one wont for another! x

  • We are having the same problem he’s slowly getting better I try get him almost to sleep and then transfer him so he knows he goes in the cot to sleep. It’s hard because I used to be able to just put him in the cot and he’d go off to sleep I’m still hoping to get back to that.

  • We’ve had to use melatonin as her body doesn’t produce enough. Prescription from a doctor! Might be worth a look
