Hello!

I have a 6 month old baby who refuses purees and seems to be taking to finger food. What options are there for breakfast as she refuses to eat off a spoon?

  • Strips of toast, cheese slices/strips, ham/sausages, boiled egg cut in wedges, cut up fruits like banana soft pear and avocado, small pancakes

  • mini quiches, sandwiches, muffins, – basically, baked products.

  • My 9mo eats toast, eggs, ham, cheese and fruits for breakfast. The only breakfast puree she will eat is weetbix as long as it has yoghurt in it.

  • Toast fingers, avocado cut into long slices, steamed apple slices

  • Toast soldiers, fruit pieces, pancakes cut up into small section.

  • Good old Aussie Vegemite on toast :) anything on toast really. Even try a soft boiled egg with toast soldiers, see how she goes dipping the toast in the egg. Yum, I’m hungry just thinking about it

  • any type of muffin. Fruit or savoury

  • My girl loves french toast. I whisk eggs with a bit of milk, soak a piece of bread and fry it. Then I cut it into fingers for her. This is just about the only way I can get her to eat eggs.

  • slices of banana and avocado.

  • toast cut into small strips.
if they are eating egg then thats a good one.

  • Slice carrots, capsicum and celery sticks. Whose to say colorful, raw, exciting vege sticks can’t be had for breakfast!! I just had a salad.

  • My kids loved Vegimite on toast soldiers, I have also done hard boiled eggs & cut them in half. Crumpets are always a good option also. Fruit is always great but that usually became my morning or afternoon snack option.

  • Things like toast, crumpet fingers, pikelets, etc.

  • Fruits…including baked apple cubes.
Bread…toasted wraps cut into strips, bagels, crumpets etc
    Toast with spreads
soft boiled egg with toast sticks
    Omelette
    pancakes
    breakfast muffins
    Banana breads or other flavours
    Porridge balls

  • Frittata cut into fingers.
Mini muffins with cheese, ham and tomato.
Toast fingers with a light spread of vegemite, avocado, ricotta or cream cheese.
Banana pancakes (made with just egg and banana).
    Mixed fruits.
Scrambled eggs (messy but bub can generally grab bits and feed themselves).

Good luck with it! We did Baby Led Weaning and finger foods from the start but bub refused a spoon anyway. He only came round to eating off a spoon at about 9 months.
