Hello!

Does anyone have RSPCA pet insurance? I received a brochure and have sent away for information?

  • I got RSPCA insurance when I got my dog at 11weeks. She is now 7 and having the insurance was the best thing I ever did. Last year she needed to have surgery on her back leg as a result of crushing her cruciate ligament. I was quoted $4,500 and because of the insurance I didn’t have to work out if I could afford to have it done immediately. I ended up being just over $700 out of pocket. It’s the best insurance I ever got and will always insure my animals with them.

  • I’d rather just have an emergency fund.

  • I’ve never had to consider pet insurance but I guess I will have to in the future when we get some dogs.

  • no i haven’t actually. you could also put some money away for it which may never be needed.

  • We have a Maltese ShihTsu and apparently they have a lot of expensive problems concerning their ligaments and joints.

  • You’re welcome!

  • Pre-existing conditions are always the tricky part of any insurance for sure! Thanks for all the info – good to know.

  • I went with Medibank because we have the health insurance with them and so we get 10% discount. But after a while I realized that with Medibank for example we had to pay for the castration, while with RSPCA it’s completely covered.
But because my dog developed an allergy, if we switch now this “pre-condition” will never be covered.

  • Thanks for the answers – I am keen to get the information now as RSPCA is sounding good.

  • Yes, and the 200 dollars excess per condition per year (!!!) (do you have it too?) is really annoying.
As far as I know, there is no excess with RSPCA

  • No, but I have heard it is is good – we have Medibank and its expensive and doesnt cover nearly as much as I thought it would.

  • No, I’m with Medibank Pet Insurance.
