Hello!

I have recently read about something called oil pulling. It’s where you swish oil (I read coconut oil) around your mouth for 5-10 minutes and it helps rid your body of impurities. I’ve recently bought some coconut oil and it’s solid, it’s a jar full of fat! I’m a bit put off about swishing it in my mouth, even tho it’s meant to melt. Have other mums heard if oil pulling and/or tried it?

  • There is no scientific proof that it actually works.

  • I haven’t tried it and it does sound a bit far fetched. I doubt I could keep the oil in my mouth for that long without gagging.

  • No,l haven’t heard of it but it does sound interesting!

  • I wonder why rinsing your mouth with coconut oil would rid you of impurities. Do you mean with your digestion? or skin? I haven’t heard of it so it’s all new to me.

  • yes i have heard the term and i know that it is becoming a popular thing. worth checking out.

  • I have never heard of this but read the comments below. I am going to investigate!!

  • I’ve done it several times and recommend only using a teaspoon as you will find it difficult to swish around until you get the gist of it as it can still be thickish. The first time I did it I certainly could not do it for 5 mins, my jaw became sore and I started to gag. So go small with both amount and time and build it up. It is recommended to be done first thing in the morning so it removes all of your toxins which lodged in our mouths over night. Don’t swallow it. I brush my teeth with coconut oil also, taste is a bit funky but you get used to it. Supposed to help with cavities, whitening and plague. I have made a mixture of coconut oil and bi carb of soda and used it for teeth also. If you don’t like putting the coconut oil in your mouth when it is hard, sit the jar in hot water to melt some first. Coconut oil is good for a lot of things. I use it on my skin, my son uses it on his skin and it helps with his pimples, I put it in my hair and leave it for day, makes it soft and shiny. It is also good to put in a smoothie, coffee etc, I only have small amounts as it can give you stomach cramps and loose stools. There is a lot of information on the internet worth reading. Happy oil pulling.

  • The coconut oil will melt very quickly. I have been told to use a tablespoon or so but I just use a tea spoon, the other just seems too much. You will get used to the sensation – it is a bit weird at the start but your mouth will feel so much cleaner after. Make sure you spit it in the bin after tho – don’t swallow or you are putting it all back in your body and don’t spit it down the drain as it will clog it up.

  • this must be something new, sounds very interesting, i will look into it!

  • Interesting, I may have to look into this as my body seems to be full of impurities.

  • I’d be inclined to agree with mom 94378! Hard to imagine what could actually be more beneficial than consuming a small quantity of same.

  • I haven’t heard of it either. My naturopath recommended ingesting a teaspoon a day. I thought it sounded doable…until I tried it. Makes me gag! And that’s in its liquid form haha

  • Never heard of this, sounds like something you would hear on April 1.

  • No – have not heard or tried.

  • The more I read about it, the beneficial it sounds. Not sure if I can bring myself to put a lump of oil in my mouth and swish till it melts tho
