Hello!

I bought a great pair of black jeans a while ago, but when I put them in the wash, they went navy blue! As they were quite dear, I don’t want to replace them, and so I was wondering if anyone has had any luck using clothes dye? Does it work? Does it stiffen the fabric? Thanks

  • Yes it works and it’s easy to do.

  • i’ve dyed clothing black and it’s quite easy to do. The only problem is that if you don’t set the colour it has a tendency to wash out again.

  • I imagine it would work, but you’d need to be careful about getting it even. Have you considered contacting the shop/ manufacturer and complaining?

  • Yes years ago i put bleach on denim jeans and made a skirt and a pair of jeans.

  • The navy blue part is just weird, makes me think they were of not good quality and not a reputable business and I’d be taking them back or at least writing to complain and name and shame them.

  • agreed with most here, definitely return them, this should’ve have happened when they are somewhat newish still.

  • I would be taking them to a professional! I guarantee if I tried anything like that I would end up dyeing most of my wardrobe!

  • Personally, I’d return them to where I bought them from, as that just shouldn’t happen. But if you want to dye them, and you don’t feel confident doing it yourself, take the jeans to a good dry-cleaner, as most of them will dye cloths for you.

  • I’d return them rather than try fix them. If it doesn’t work evenly you won’t then be able to return them.

  • You can get some specific denim dye.. Go to a fabric shop and ask the people there

  • I’d be taking them back or writing to the company – it shouldn’t happen. Even if you’ve washed them more than once and don’t have a receipt – still get in contact with them.

  • My daughter has used the dylon dye that you put in thew washing machine and her outfits have always come out looking fantastic but shes never dyed Denim.

  • I haven’t dyed clothes for years, not sure how denim would go though.

  • I have used Dylon in the past which was great to just chuck into the wash. Don’t know how well it would go in a front loader. I don’t think there’d be a problem after all you are dyeing them black but I agree be careful of too many creases.

  • I think you can but it may take a couple of goes to get them as black as before
