Hello!

I only leave them once a week and the other day with grandparents. The daycare day is hard for me. I feel guilty the whole time

  • You need to remind yourself that it’s good for them- they’re in a stimulating environment with other kids and it’s good for you too. It will get easier and the best thing is to leave as quickly as possible- they soon forget you’ve gone.

  • It should get easier. And please feel comforted that if it’s high quality daycare, it will benefit them in the long run.

  • You shouldn’t feel guilty. You’re helping to earn money so they have a better life and my kids both love daycare. They make friends and get to do all sorts of activities. Just think of how much fun your little one is having.

  • Never got easier for me. My boy was so bad, I pulled him out after half a dozen visits, he just didn’t like it. My daughter loved it and I couldn’t wait to see her at the end of the day

  • It does get easier, but some days are hard when they’re upset. I’m always told it lasts only for a min or 2. I feel It’s so good for them, that it outweighs the occasional bad day.

  • As a child care worker and a mum i see parents feeling guilty all the time. For me it did get easier as my child was always so happy to attend daycare. i could see her face light up everytime we arrived. This told me that she was having a wonderful time there which made me happy.
It takes time, leaving your loved ones with strangers is tough, but i am sure you child is in great hands.

  • Think of the benifits , their grandparents get a well deserved day off , and the children gets social interaction with other children. Don’t feel guilty. The only time I felt guilty about my children in day care was when a female critisised me for doing it. I then took stock and decided other peoples opinion did not matter, what mattered was my children. If they were happy I was happy.

  • I’m sure it isn’t easy but guilt never helps. Remember it is only 1 day per week and perhaps try and think of all the benefits that they are getting from the situation – from the social opportunities of mixing with other adults and children, to exposure to a range of germs (that will help give them a healthy immune system). There would surely be learning opportunities that will prepare them well for school too. If the centre is close enough maybe you can drop in at lunchtime or other break and catch up with what is going on?
