Hello!

I asked my grandmother this question when she was alive and she answered ‘this wasn’t invented when I was younger’. Food for thought, isn’t it, what do you think?

  • I think it was not spoken about in earlier times, in the same way they didn’t speak about periods really.
But yes menopause exists. I was around 46yrs old when menopause hit me. The symptoms that most bothered me were hot flushes, sleep problems and vaginal dryness. Now nearly 10yrs later I had some post menopausal bleedings most likely caused by atrophy

  • Menopause is not a new invention but the way we deal with and discuss things now compared to your grandmother’s time have certainly changed. Menopause is real whether a woman suffers intensely or hardly has any symptoms. I was one of the lucky ones and sailed through menopause with little discomfort at the age of 46.

  • As with everything, advances in the medical field and people being more open to discussing issues, we now know more. I can definitely confirm menopause is real. My umpteen hot flushes a day tell me that

  • I’m assuming back then women wernt open about their difficulties so it wasn’t spoken about

  • I’m 56yrs and all I can say is yes it’s really existing lol !

  • Maybe back when your grandma was going through menopause, it simply didn’t have a name. They most likely experienced all the symptoms but just didn’t have a name for it at the time. As a 50+ lady currently going through it, I say a huge yes that it is actually a thing

  • From what l have heard from women,a big yes!

  • Women’s bodies have always changed as they have gotten older. In days gone by women didn’t get to talk openly about these changes in western society. Menopause still is not talked about as openly as I would like. I can speak to any of my friends about periods and everyone has plenty to say but none of us really know too much about menopause.

  • I think the physical changes would have happened but the “fuss” made about it would not have existed. It would have been something that women endured without a lot of support. Maybe some percentage would have found changes “easy” the rest just “managed” or “suffered”. having to take it in their stride. In those times and societies where women and men rarely lived to 50 years of age it would be possible that some women died before this change had occurred too.

  • Probably back in her days , they may not have discovered it or if there was signs of it , no one knew what it was . Apparently our hormone changes as we grow older so not surprising when the body is not the same as when you were twenty years younger. I feel like I am getting squeaky bones already .

  • I’m sure it would have been around back them, it just didn’t have a name. It was probably branded as “women’s business” and ignored, seen as something that was part of just being a woman getting older

  • My mum is pretty sure it exists!

  • it existed they just hadn’t diagnosed it as a condition or had a name for it.
it is different for every woman, some are affected worse than others. bottom line you stop being fertile!
and your dr can help with any severe symptoms.

  • yes the hot sweats are the worse but trying to keep on top of it

  • Maybe it was “invented” but it was probably still there they just didn’t have a name for it. You will find out if it is when you reach that age I suppose.
