Hello!

One of the things that irritates me most as a first time mum is when people say ‘Oh my baby slept through the night from 3 weeks old’. My 10 month old still rarely sleeps through. Someone even asked me ‘what are u doing wrong?’

  • I know this is a very old post, but I’m sure that people still look at the answers, as it is such a hot topic with mums (hence me opening the old thread!). My first did not sleep through for years, and was still waking 4 or 5 times a night at 2 and a half. I think my second is going to be exactly the same… At the moment he wakes 3 or 4 times on a good night.

  • My daughter didn’t sleep through the night until she was 12 months old. And that was after seeing a sleep consultant.
My son is currently 11 months old and up once or twice a night for a feed.

  • my 11 month old is up 4 times, hes bf

  • all bubs are different. were you breast feeding mine is up 6 times a night. im at my wits end though and introducing some rules~

  • Mine slept through from a couple of months old.
But if they are I can get up 2-3 times.

  • You’re not doing anything wrong. My eldest son was 2 when he completely stopped waking at night. His growth charts were in the 95% so he needed the top up feed overnight. My 1yo occasionally sleeps through but will wake every 4hrs during a growth spurt. As long as they’re warm enough & taking a full feed (not snacking) at night then they need it.

  • I honestly think that sometimes mums are known to embellish the truth when it comes to sleep and their children ;) But there are kids out there that do sleep through – mine just happened to be toddlers and weaned when that happened.

  • Every child is different, my eldest is 5 and only just started sleeping through the night but my 2 year old was sleeping through from 6months old and before then would sleep through some nights.

  • You won’t be doing anything wrong each child is different and I’m sure when some say they slept through I still think they forget about the 3am wake up feed lol.
You and your child will get into a routine when your both ready.

  • My baby wakes up about twice a night, she is 6 months old. From 3 weeks old she was sleeping through the night, it was fantastic and then all of a sudden just before 5 months she started waking. I didn’t do anything differently, she just became more active and aware. I try to think of it positively, she’s a happy little girl, growing really well and is very active, I cant be doing anything too wrong!

  • NO!!!My first 2 children slept through from 6 weeks. My third child is 9 months and still wakes up.once or twice. i give her a bottle the 1st time and the second time i bring her to bed.
My first 2 children were not breast fed, but my 3rd was until 6 months. I do believe this habit is contributed from the regular bfs she used to have.
