Hello!

Hi I am wanting to get my daughter a Dolls House for her 3rd birthday. I am looking for suggestions for a sturdy, wooden dolls house under $200. I like to Le Toy Van ones that open up, however they are too expensive. Which do you find better, the ones that open up which are generally smaller so you would have to sit & play, or the open plan ones which are larger so you can stand & play? Thanks

  • I’d go for the standing one as she can sit to play on the bottom floor then stand for the top. Works her gross motor skills as well as fine motor too. I hope you found one she just absolutely loves

  • Thanks for asking because my girl will be 2 this year and I’ll be thinking about dolls houses soon.

With regards to your girl, I would be asking you how much space you have for the house and dollies. I would go for a larger one, particularly if there are siblings who will likely play with her or if you often have playdates for her. The bigger the house, the more opportunity for her to play with someone else (even you!).

  • For a 3 year old, I would go for the bigger stand and play one. Little kids aren’t so great with small fiddley toys. Great idea for a gift tho. I gad one as a kid, absolutely loved it, til it got smashed up by a kid mum used to babysit. I bought my daughter one too. We spent hours together with it, she spent ages playing with it by herself too.

  • The open plan one has been great for my daughter – she’s two – standing doesn’t seem to be a problem, and it really gives a lot of room for play.

  • ikea have a nice one? def buy a good one

  • check out the Target toy sales – they had one or two and will likely sell a floor model in the next couple of weeks heavily discounted. other than that Kmart and Toys r us usually have a couple

  • I got my daughters one from Kmart, you put it together but its sturdy, takes the knocks etc. My 4 year daughter plays with it for hours. They also have wooden furniture to go in it.

  • I like the large ones, they tend to last them a bit longer than the little ones that open up

  • I like the big ones they can stand with but it depends on your house size

  • My friends little girl got a doll house for her 3rd birthday and she loves it!! Even my son loves playing with it when we go over there. She got hers from K-Mart for about $60.00, it is wooden and fairly tall and looks pretty good quality. Maybe check those out :-)

  • eBay is flooded with dolls houses. Would you consider buying a second hand one that is already fully furnished? I know the Le Toy Van ones that you refer to, buying decent furniture for dolls houses isn’t cheap either. I like dolls houses that you can sit on a table to be played with.

  • The open ones are good and you could always get someone to attach a door. I would think about getting a second hand one as you can pick up ones that are in perfect like new condition and they go for around $60. I always see them on the buy sell pages on facebook and also ebay.

  • kmaet, big w and also ebay .

  • We got one from deals direct. It is big enough for a barbie doll and came with furniture. The kids love it!

  • Yep deals direct have dolls houses that look fantastic or you could just go with a smaller one from Kmart/ big w to see if your daughter actually plays with it and if she does will give you time to save up for the one you really want to get her and know it would be worth it.
