Hello!

I really want a foolproof scone recipe – I’m tired of making scones that are either rock hard, too crumbly or too gooey. Are they really that hard to make?

  • I find my go hard if I overwork the dough – usually when the kids help. I find bigger scones and cooked for less time turn out ok.

  • the lemonade scone recipe is fool proof. Sorry I dont have it on me at the moment..- look up on taste.com you’ll find it on there.

  • Mine goes hard all the time . Perhaps you need to add more milk to the dough …?

  • It’s cheating but I swear by the Country Women’s Association scone mix. I get it from Coles.

  • Mummabear’s scone recipe is a ‘no fail’ recipe and the scones always turn out fluffy. Maybe try this recipe and work quickly and you will have success! Happy baking and eating!

  • 2 cups SR flour
    1 cup lemonade
    1 cup cream
    Mix together
    Cut with scone cutter
Place next to each other on pre- floured baking tray
Bake till risen, and pull apart easily.
Works for me every time, recipe we use at a café, very popular. Can add sultanas / pumpkin etc for flavour variations, happy baking!

  • also i am pretty sure that there are a few good recipes on this site for scones. why not check them out? you might be suprised!

  • The key to good scones is to work quickly and not overwork the mixture. Handle it quickly and the scones should be good. I always use a basic scone mixture and the scones turn out fluffy.

  • I agree with mummabear.
All I would add is not to work the pastry too much, keep it soft, and don’t roll it out too thin.
I use the same recipe and it works for me.
I freeze any left over ones, and one minute in the microwave, mines 1200 watts, makes them like they’ve just been baked for those unexpected guests.

  • I second the Taste.com recommendation. I look for the recipes with lots of reviews and high reviewer ratings. It pays to read the comments too.

  • i just google and usually use the taste.com recipe for easy scones. good luck!

  • The 4 Ingredients is pretty fool proof! I only made rock cakes until I found it!

    Makes 12
    4 cups SR flour
    300ml cream
    1 can lemonade
Sift SR flour into a bowl, make a well and pour in cream and lemonade. Mix to make a firm dough, roll out, cut with a scone cutter and bake in hot oven until golden brown.
