Hello!

“My 2yo (#4 child) is always catching every bug that goes around which then turns into head/sinus issues or tonsilitis. We are booked into get grommets done & tonsils removed soon as we seem to visit the dr every 2wks. Ive become very concerned over the constant antibiotics she receives & it was recently suggested to get the flu shot for her in hope that it may reduce things over Winter – are there any parents that have had to do this for their children? None of my other children have ever been this unlucky with colds & flu but this little one seems to cop every headcold cycle. Thoughts, advice & did it help? Do you encourage the flu shot for a two year old?”

  • My youngest has T21 and had always lots of lunch infections, bronchiolitis, colds and flu’s the first years. She got her first when she was 6months old, so a 2yr old certainly can have a flu shot ! My daughter is 6yrs years now and I get her yearly a flu shot done, just out of precaution.

  • I’ve never heard of a flu shot for a 2 year old as their own immunity should be strong enough to ward off major infection. Speak to your local GP for advise. A lot of children grow out of it. My son had tonsillitis every year as a little one now he;s a strapping young man and rarely suffers with it. The doctors erred on the side of not removing his tonsils.

  • No, none of my kids have ever had the flu shot and none of them will. Its a particularly nasty vaccination and has been known to have a number of nasty side effects (one version killed 5 children before they decided ban it for under 5’s). I’ve had 2 children get their tonsils and adenoids now and their problems cleared up once it was done. I was also a kid who was on antibiotics for tonsillitis continually as a child. Once my tonsils came out my problems stopped and now as an adult, I have never had the flu. I wouldn’t risk the flu shot with such a small child myself.

  • Good to know! Really very interesting comments on this!

  • I thought you couldn’t get a flu shot for anyone under the age of 5

  • You would have to ask if the Dr would recommend it at that age.

  • how did you go, dr do recommend flu shot but I don’t think it is at 2

  • Hope you managed to find the answer you were looking for.

  • Talk with your doctor about it

  • Did you get it for your 2 year old?

  • What did you decide to do in the end. I would seek advice from my GP.

  • I am not fond of constant antibiotics use either, I think it can have a negative effect on the immune system in the end from prolonged use. I think a flu shot could be worth doing.

  • I hope it all goes well for your little girl

  • Sounds like she may have a weaker immune system than your other children. I would definitely talk to your doctor, and maybe even get a second opinion.

  • talk to your doctor about it
