I would say-nappies and food.

We went to Fiji when our first born was about the same age and I was so nervous about flying with a baby. It was much easier than I thought. She had a bottle on takeoff and landing to help with ears. I took some squeezies as well in case and she slept most of the flight.

You’re allowed to prepack food and bring formula or breastmilk for them. I think 9 months should be fairly easy to entertain, just sit in a window seat and they can watch outside.

Food, toys, drinks. A new toy as well. Can you book a bassinet? Babies get heavy holding them.

I’m not sure which toys – but none that are noisy. Maybe a small handful of blocks. A couple of books, A shape sorter. Pop them all into a drawstring bag. Remember to take a favourite soft toy.

Definitely try to have your bub sucking or chewing on something to stop the ascent pain in his ears and a menthol soaked cloth [Vicks vapor rub style] will also help here. If your bub doesn’t scream you will find many on the plane will be happy to help you keep him entertained. I most certainly did .

Hate to be that parent but I feel like you can’t go wrong with an iPad and favourite show. For your own sanity and the sanity of everyone else around you!

Try and make your flight times in some way coincide with nap time; the usual nappy bag and toys or things he would normally do. Be mindful of the ascent and descent of the plane with bub’s ears. This can hurt. My son screamed until the pressure was reduced. Something to look at eg. a screen with something suitable on it. I do think there’s a time and place for it, and this is the time!

If breastfeeding, feed during take off and landing- the sucking stops pressure building in ears and giving that painful earache. If not breastfeeding, use anything he can suck on. If he will eat store bought baby food, jars are really handy. Try to get him to have a sleep during the flight- that’s a lot easier than keeping a kid amused when you can’t move!

A travel stroller that fits in the overhead compartment is a MUST HAVE! We got the Nano and was able to have our bub sitting the entire time (only got her out through security check process and once we were boarding) As soon as the flight landed we were able to open up the stroller as soon as we got off the plane. We were the envy of every parent!

I was recently recommended toys that stick on to the aeroplane window (I guess pending that you have a Windows seat!). Apparently works a charm for bubs of this age. The one I was shown spins around like a windmill.

Pick your times. We flew late at night out so bub would sleep first. Take plenty of water (if allowed)! Know who you fly with and what they offer kids. Some things you have to prebook. And sleep well first! Hubby is great but slept through SO much.

At least it’s only a short flight! I don’t think you have to worry too much. Just the usual bottles, nappies, wipes etc. It’s when they’re a bit older and want to run around like maniacs is when it gets harder.

In my experience it’s easier to fly with babies than with toddlers and slightly older kids. And a 3-4 our flight is not that long. Of course you can pack foods. When baby is still breastfeeding; breastfeeding is ideal on planes, but when formula fed you need to make sure just to bring the powder-as no liquids allowed on the plane. Bring some favourite toys, I always loved to interactive books and made some myself on the sewing machine. But most of all be creative on the plane. You can do little peek a boo and hide and seek games, sing and read, have a walk around in the plane and connect with other people. Before you know it you will have reached your destination
