Hello!

I breastfeed my 4 month old baby exclusively. What can I start to introduce, other than breast milk, at this age?

  • Farex with milk for starters. Then introduce one food at a time to the farex. Build from there

  • I used to introduce my kids with anything that I can make and mash. So it might be mashed potatoes ( which everyone can eat ), overcooked rice , pasta etc . Later on you can steam vegies and mash it with the rice or potato.
Most important it must be soft and before you do that check with your childhood nurse to make sure it is ok to state introducing solids to the baby .

  • Anything within reason that is puréed into a very fine consistency make your own it’s cheaper and healthier!

  • At this age baby is introduced to solids, just to become used to textures in food and this is essential for speech development. Rice cereal is generally the first solid food introduced, followed by mashed potato and other soft vegetables. Puree what you have at mealtimes. No added salt or seasoning, no added sugar. As baby grows older the food does not have to be pureed only mashed and then soft whole foods, a wedge of potato a piece of banana and gradually to normal food. Sit the high chair at the table at meal times and baby will love to have what you are having.

  • I started my twins off at 4 months with nestle cerelac they loved it and you can even mix it with pureed fruit.

  • Usually solids are started at the 6month mark and after moving on from the fares/ cereal style of foods, avocado is a good first food. Veg first and fruit later as otherwise they only want sweet foods and is a nightmare to work through.

  • Thank you mums for all the answers. i have seen gp and he told us to give everything except egg white. i started giving carrot, potato ,chicken as puree. she eats everything.completed a week.she is perfectly alright.

  • Solids are usually introduced at 5-6 months but all babies are different, I think we started with a baby cereal like farex and baked sweet potato!

  • they’re are jars with age rating on them at supermarkets or you could make mashed potato with some pumpkin

  • we started rice cereal for once a day since 4 month+3 days. after 10 days of solid, baby hasn’t done a poo in 6 days! the health nurse said cos the cereal is rich in Iron, might have to offer extra water or some veg.

  • We officially started regular good at 6 months, prior to that it would be avo here, banana there ( mashed up obviously)

  • If she’s showing interest in your food, looking and grabbing for food then she’s probably ready. I started with puree anything! Fruit, veg, rice cereal……gave her the same thing for about 3 days until her tummy was use to having different things. It’s a shock to their little systems initially because they’ve only ever had milk in there, so I didn’t go with too much variety to start with.

  • we started with baby rice mixed with breast milk. but check with health nurse for latest advice.

  • I give nothing other than breastfeed until 6 months start solid

  • Thank you for all the answers.i think I will wait a little more.may be one more month.i thought to start something other than breast milk because she demands to feed her almost every hour.
