Hello!

My son has just turned 5 months and I have been feeding him solids since 4 months to help with wind. I started using the jar food because he was diagnosed with an intolerance to formula at 12 weeks so I was very cautious of starting him on food. Now he can’t get enough. His favorite is pumpkin with sweet corn. When making this myself what corn can I use? Do I just use the corn kernels from the can or creamed corn or do I have to get corn on the cob and take it off that way. I tried one batch with the corn herbals from the tin and when in puréed it it seems to have some corn skins in it. I pureed it a lot to make sure there were no lumps but there is still bits of skin. Is this ok? Any other suggestions on favorite foods? He loves apple and pear. Thanks all :-)

  • My 6 month old had puréed carrot, red cabbage and strawberry with a bit of rice cereal mixed in today.
Yesterday she had puréed tuna (canned in spring water) and chickpeas.
Day before mashed cauliflower and purple sweet potato.

She usually gets something similar to what I’m serving the family, just without seasoning and blended /mashed.

  • I would think corn is a bit hard for a babies digestion system. The best foods are avocado and sweet potato, they are both wholefoods that have a lot of nutrition and easy for babies to digest. My son use to love hummus around 10 months old onwards, now he makes it himself. Banana’s are another great food for babies, you can mash it up easily and not need to add anything because it fills them up. Fruit and cooked veggies should always be first choice.

  • Yes apple, pumpkin and sweet potatoe are good! Its very interesting reading the comments on this!

  • Don’t used creamed as its full of sugar.
You can pretty much feed him anything just adapt it without salt, sugar, fat etc

  • I just use frozen corn and cook and purée well

  • My 5 month old loves mashed avocado, bananas and cooked apple.

  • Apple, pumpkin, sweet potatoe

  • pumpkin and sweet potato were always a hit in our house also homemade custard.

  • You can pretty much steam then mash any veggies. If you are worried about skin, push it through a sieve after you pull it out of the blender.

  • Corn kernels and other veggies with skins, like peas, can be pushed through a strainer to get rid of the skins. Personally I give them to my son with the skins in it and just watch him closely.

  • sweet potato is similar in sweetness to pumpkin n add some beans?

  • Head over to the baby and toddler section of recipes, there are some great submissions
