Hello!

Miss A has slept through the night from 6 weeks old until about 3 weeks ago. She goes to bed around 7.30pm every night and is up again around 11ish. The only way to resettle her is to lie on the couch with her or put her in bed with me. She won’t go near my hubby it has to be me! Once she lies down she goes straight back to sleep but I can’t put her back in her cot as she wakes up straight away again. I can’t let her cry herself back to sleep as this wakes her brothers up. Please help!!!

  • don’t stress, it is stages not ages with kids x

  • I never left my one’s room even if I picked him up so he knew he wasn’t getting anywhere even if he doesn’t want to sleep!

  • We never had the children sleep in our bed, we didn’t want them to think that would happen if they didn’t go to sleep, we actually played some music and amazingly it relaxed them and they went off to sleep.

  • i should try the walk with my daughter

  • Maybe change her into a toddler bed she may be having night terrors. Keep with your routine. Go in and give her a cuddle. Rub her back and she should fall asleep.

  • I take my little one for a walk around the block…..he walks too. Then bath & bed. I find the walk wears him out & he sleeps through!

  • You mentioned she is in a cot? That could be part of the problem. My daughter slept alot better once we moved her into a toddler bed at 16mths. Maybe see how she goes ?

  • This is a tough one, and could just be a stage, try keeping her up for longer before her bed time sleep,

  • Perhaps try putting her to bed a little later…perhaps 8:15…maybe shes not tired enough when she goes to bed and if she stirs she wakes herself fully.
Sadly once you start putting them in bed with you it becomes something they like very quickly…so she knows the routine now and wants to be in bed with you. I know as parents we can go for the easy way out at times but then find we have made a rod for our own backs. The habit will be hard to break but you are just going to have to stick with it and not allow her to sleep with you if its not something you are comfortable to continue with.

  • I was the same as you but after a couple of months my daughters settled down and now they sleep all the way through

  • I am having almost the exact same problems with my 2 1/2 year old girl

  • It is what she is used to now. try putting a clock or something that resembles your heart beat in the cot with her and wrap her up so she doesn’t feel the release from your arms

  • I have heard so many similar situations before and they will resolve by themselves after a couple months… Hang on for now!

  • Friends and I with children the same age found this was common around 22-24 months. My son would wake at 11 (and sometimes 1am) regularly – no matter what time he went to bed. It lasted around 6 weeks and he then went back to better patterns and sleeping through at 2.
He’s now 2.5 and sometimes wakes 1-2 nights a week – still at those same times, but it is only brief and he will mostly self settle. Not sure if it’s a growth spurt, of they start being more aware and dreaming or what it is but I do know it’s very common.

  • I dont know whether it would work in this case, but try a clock, the windup sort if you have one. I was once told that if a baby can feel a heartbeat, and is snuggled up and warm, will sleep. Another idea I was told that put her down with a pillow, small at her back, she can then feel something or somebody and helps back to sleep again.
