Hello!

Trying to entertain my kids while they’re in the trolley and I’m doing the shopping is a real challenge.  I never seem to be able to keep them happy. I can’t get my groceries home delivered as I’m out of area so I’m stuck in the supermarket. Any hints or tips from other mums to occupy the kids so I get my shopping done?

  • Depends on their age – involving them helps if they’re old enough. eg Choosing a particular variety of product. Or give them the “job” of spotting something on the shelves.

  • my 4 yr old loves his tablet but he takes up the whole trolley!! its really hard, can you get a baby sitter?

  • I will never forget the time when I was booked for speeding over the limit on a small street from getting out of the supermarket after two hours and I had the two kids with me . I was so exhausted ( as they held me up and kept fighting ) that I was anxious to get home and didn’t even realise what had happened . The officer was a woman and was quite angry and when I explained the situation , she was very sympathetic and said be careful next time . Till this day the kids remembered .

  • It’s hard. I usually just give them a biscuit or bribe them with a chocolate! :)

  • A way we occupy ours is first up we head to the deli and get some cheerios, open it up and give them some as we are doing the shopping and sometimes they also get a chocolate milk. it really doesn’t matter as long as its all paid for at the registers, and we always put those through first!!

  • Give them something to play with,or a book also I used to take sandwiches, give them one while travelling in trolley. Something that keeps their attention.. as it is boring for them.
hope this is a few idea’s that work, as it does frazzle you as the Mum. Just thought I take list, so give them pencil and pad to draw on

  • Have a list ready and your running shoes on and do it as quickly as possible. Lol

  • I have the same problem and dread going shopping. I have to go now but I put it off for as long as I can. I would love any answers too. Thanx

  • I gave mr 3 an ice pole the other day which helped

  • Give them a shopping list / job each. If they are old enough ask them to work out which is the best value. Give them a budget for lunch treats and have them work it out

  • With master 3 wee give him a note pad and list and he has great fun crossing this list off, I also pack snacks and stickers for him

  • I know how u feel ,I’m naughty but I give them a lollypop ,so there distracted ,then quickly grab food .

  • food if they are little but most just like going shopping, a tablet with apps, get them to help you find what you need and mentions of rewards for good behaviour and let them know what isn’t acceptable behaviour before you go

  • It depends on how old they are but make them feel important by giving them their own jobs to do. One can get something off the shelf and the other put it in the trolley. Give them a list each.

or we have always played a game where I tell them we should by some fish food…but oh that’s right, we don’t have any fish. well I think we need food for the horse…hang on, have we got a horse. Better buy food for the lizard..etc!

  • I buy my kids an icecream from maccas, it keeps them occupied eating it
