Hello!

I just want my teenagers to make their beds and pick up what they put on the floor. Any suggestions on ways to make this happen?

  • A small reward is always a nice idea!

  • My eldest 2 are teenagers; my son is great in tidying his room, my daughter isn’t. Most of the time I pull the door behind me, but every now and then I ask in a gentle way “I would love you to tidy your wash away and clear your floor girlie” and may need to repeat that for some days, but she’ll do it in the end. It’s her room, not mine lol !

  • As part of a family they need to understand they are also part of a team and everyone needs to do their bit.

  • Tell them whatever is not put away and tidy will be thrown away.

  • No pocket money, they aren’t baby’s anymore the more you spoil them the worse off they are gonna be ,everyone needs to take responsibility for there own mess,so it is for the best.Set a price, keep your room clean, pocket money pay day.

  • Close the door to their bedroom and don’t look at inside. Some children are tidy and some are not, while some adults are tidy and some are not. Some things are just not worth arguing about, save your energy for the things that matter.

  • I think this is next to impossible…..GOOD LUCK!!

  • Withholding things from DD usually works.

  • Make them earn their privileges by cleaning their rooms. Like either pocket money, the wifi password, computer use, phone use, sports shoes etc.

  • I tell my kids don’t leave there room in the mornings till there bed is made. If you have to make them go back to do it something is getting taken away.

  • Make them miss out on things until it’s done. My son is only 12 but it works at the moment (who knows how long it will last though)

  • Invite their friends over.

  • I give my teenager 3 warnings, after the third time when he is at school I load everything up of the floor and dump it in the middle of there bed. My kids know when I do that I am fed up asking them. It gets clean very quickly

  • Good luck, my ploy was to not wash anything eventually he ran out of clthes

  • get them to empty the contents of your linen closet on the floor an then refold everything an put it all back.. them tell them thats what its like for you to pick up an clean up after they pull everything all out
