How can I remove a urine smell (courtesy of my toddler) from my gorgeous large rug? I’ve tried shampoos, sprays, steam mops, vacuuming, leaving it out in the sun (wanted to leave it out in the rain, but it hasn’t rained much lately). I don’t want a professional carpet clean, as the chance of my toddler reoffending is high…

  • There is actually a get product called Urine-off! It’s designed for dogs/cats but urine is urine so it should work for your problem too!

  • it will fade over time but glen 20 can give it a wriggle on!

  • sounds so much hassle :(

  • try washing it then air drying it for aout a week

  • Four staples to always have on hand:
    Bi Carb Soda
    Eucalyptus oil
Use vinegar, then shake bi carb. Use Eucalyptus oil to remove smell.
    Excellent question.
    Good luck :-)

  • Definitely vinegar, another good one is bicarb dusted over and left for a few hours and vaccuumed up. Bicarb is also good for mattresses.

  • I’m a foster carer for cats and kittens so i have experienced this urine problem so many time….I found what works best is I use vinegar and i have tried diluted lemon juice too which was ok.

  • Bi-carb and a few drops of lavender oil sprinkled over the rug and leave overnight then vacuum the next day. Also you can get a product from coles called nilodur, I’ve used it on heave duty odours like milk spilt in the car, works wonders!

  • I Dont have an answer yet those cheeky little toddlers and their pee puddles lol mine likes to take his nappy off every chance he gets

  • You could hore a carpet cleaner form a supermarket but if you love your soft furnishings it might be worth investing in a Bissel spot cleaner, I have one that I use everywhere from the mattress to the car!

  • Good luck! I’d be trying the bi carb….

  • bicard soda. just strinkle it on wait a day and vacum

  • vinegar soaked tea towel and set in front of a fan or wave around the room eliminates odour

  • Pet odour stuff can’t remember name can get in Coles or Woolies – it destroys smell of urine very quickly
