Hello!

She loves art, (& drawing anime) and we have given watercolour paints & pencils, art sets, proper charcoal pencils, shading pencils backlit drawing board etc etc previously – there isn’t anything art wise we haven’t given her, or she hasn’t got from someone else. Needing other ideas, but she has no real hobbies.
It is my for my niece & cant be “an experience” or movie ticket as vouchers for them have all gone to waste. HELP!!

  • I was going to suggest sending her to an art class, but I don’t know if that falls under the category of experience or not. There is always money, but honestly, if she loves art supplies why not get them for her?

  • Gift voucher is probably the safest bet. Maybe some nice stationary?

  • What about an art easel, even a good old board game where they get to play it with you or someone and therefore spending time with people and connecting. Another kind of art medium like clay.

  • A digital subscription could be another possibility.

  • Maybe an art book in a different field oil paint or sculpture clay

  • Another idea is to possibly purchase a subscription for an art or craft magazine.
I love subscriptions because it is like receiving a special personalised gift every month!

  • I would buy her a visa gift card or eftpos gift card that she can use anytime anywhere she wants and gets what she needs

  • How about an age appropriate book she may enjoy reading?
    Or an outside toy?
Or a craft activity that she can do but then part with (like one of those paint by colours, sew wool to make a puppet) So it will be like an experience she can do at home. Good luck!

  • Art books particularly on her chosen genre might be a welcome present.
DVD’s on art may be worth looking into and possibly expanding and exploring other genres.
An outing together to an art gallery or exhibition might also be a lovely gift.

  • You said that she likes drawing anime. Does she also like reading or watching anime? Are you able to get her a Dymocks voucher so she can purchase some new anime comics, or go into eBay and find some of her favourite anime on DVD? There are also shops like CTC that stock anime products like backpacks, purses, cushions, figurines, books etc. maybe some tickets to Comic-Con?

  • You may have a search ahead of you. You may be able to find books that teach the steps to drawing some things. I gave one to an 8 year old a few years ago and she used it until after she left school. One of her favourites was drawing the head and neck of horses and they had to be perfect. She is a perfectionist. I wish I had bought 2 now. I am currently searching for another one for a boy who is learning art at school.

  • other than gift vouchers, you could buy her a nice set of frames for her favourite art pieces or maybe a high tea or afternoon tea for her and a friend. A voucher to her fave clothing store, an itunes voucher if she has an iphone or ipad. A mani/pedi for her and a friend, a few movie tickets/ movie money.

  • When in doubt, I just buy a gift voucher to BigW or Target or Kmart, somewhere like that. Then she can go through and buy what she likes, within the price range of the voucher

  • Seeing how she loves art …how about a lesson at a art studio …I have seen ads for these and they teach Technics etc and some supply morning tea/lunch. Yes There are special ones for children by the way.

  • How about making her own jewelry? One can buy lots of kits etc so they can be creative and design their own.
