Hello!

My washing machine as a horrible smell to it at the moment and was just wondering what other mums use to give their washings a freshen up/clean?

  • I run a cycle with no clothes but washing detergent.

  • I’ve never heard of using bicarb. I would run an empty wash cycle with two cups of vinegar.

  • Put a bottle of vinegar and a good amount of bi carb, allow to sit for 5 than put on machine and let it run through a normal wash cycle. Splashing a bit of vinegar through with your everyday wash is great for your machine and amazing for your clothes as it also acts like a fabric softener, minus the “pretty” smell, leaves pleasant clean neutral smell, not vinegary!

  • Good question . A Lady technician told me to use 1 box of bicarb soda and put on the washing machine with no clothes in it . The soda will clean the machine well and should get rid of the smell .

  • My washing machine came with instructions to do regular warm water washes with a splash of vinegar to jeep it fresh and clean

  • I wipe mine out after every use. Every now and again I put on a warm cycle and add a splash of white vinegar to it

  • I use a cup of vinegar and if that doesn’t work do an empty load with fabric softener :)

  • I wipe mine down after every use. I do a warm cycle with vinegar in the water, no clothes, to clean the inside out

  • Do a warm wash cycle with some white vinegar in the water. Or a warm water wash cycle with some Napisan dissolved in the water

  • google bicarb uses – it is awesome, and the answer to icky machines

  • read the book that came with it lovey – mine says bicarb and vinegar

  • bicarb and vinegar?

  • i just wash a load on the hottest setting and put in a cap of white king or vanish and then make sure that you leave the washing machine door open after every wash so that it can dry properly and get fresh air in there

my machine’s booklet said not to put things like bi-carb in the machine

  • Run a cycle of just water and bi carb through.

  • Maybe you could run a washing cycle without any clothes and add some diluted vinegar to this rinse. Vinegar is great for disinfecting and also eliminating odours. Also you should keep the washing machine lid open after each wash to let it air out.
