Hello!

What is a good age for girls to start wearing make up? I hardly ever wear make up but my 6 year old got some for her birthday and loves it. Is she to young?

  • At that age it’s nice to play with make up at home after school for example when they play dress ups. Personally I think 6yrs old is to young to go out with make up on. My daughter was in high school year 8 or 9 when she started using a little make up

  • 2 of our girls are very into make up and were given make up by outside parties – I didn’t agree but I do allow them to play dress up at home, they love it but we wash it all off later. I’m also in the bought of not sure what else to do because I grew up with a girl who by age 13 was too uncomfortable to leave the house without it because it ‘made her beautiful’ but she was and still is gorgeous without. Just an experience that stuck with me!

  • I think, as part of dress up fun, make up us ok. But as a daily, I need it thing, I wouldn’t be encouraging it. We don’t need it

  • It really does depend on the child’s personality.

  • I don’t think there’s anything wrong with your six year old playing with make-up at home. It’s like playing dress ups.

  • I really do think it depends on the girl. I’ve never worn a lot of make-up and neither does my teenage daughter, so I think it’s a personal choice.

  • Young girls love make-up,if she enjoys it why not!

  • I guess it is a personal choice, my 17 year old wears a little every now and then but not much. A friends daughter is 9 and obsessed.

  • In a daily basis I think 15 – as a one off / lip balm only I think any age from about 2 years (if trying whilst watching mummy get ready etc).
If a little one has their own makeup I think it is only ok for dress ups etc not as everyday wear

  • Never! My daughter us 22 and I always tell her she doesn’t need make up, it’s not good for her skin etc As usual, the young ones think they know better and she doesn’t listen

  • My mum had it easy with me… I didn’t really wear make up at all, my wedding was the first time I really used anything lol…

  • As a bit of fun at home, I would say every now and then would be ok, otherwise not until she is a teenager, even then I would probably say around 16 lol

  • it is fun for at home for sure. the make-up issue is one that i hope i don’t have to deal with until my girls are teenagers

  • She has been only using for dress ups so that is a good thing, I like the idea only for teenagers, cause I thought she might be a bit too young!

  • A rule for under teens can be make up is only used for dress up/costume play.
