Hello!

My husband and I would like to plan for a baby in the near future, are there any good supplements or diets that are good to start pre-pregnancy? This will be our first baby, we are very new at this – any suggestions are welcome!

  • Its recommended that you take a folic acid supplement if you are planning on getting pregnant but a pregnancy multivitamin such as Blackmores pregnancy and breastfeeding is probably your best option. Also just a healthy diet, good sleep and exercise helps as well.

  • I used elevit which was recommended by my dr

  • my doc suggested elevit and i’ve used it for all three of my kids. blackmores would be my second choice and these brands have been around for a long time

  • Go to the Dr’s first, they’ll give you a quick check up, ask some questions about your health & diet & probably suggest you start on Elevit at least 3 months prior to conceiving. In saying that, friends have used other pre natal vitamins & everything’s been fine for their baby’s.
Start a healthy, fresh vegies & meat diet & start regular exercise (if you don’t already) but nothing too strenuous… I think these things definitely helped me!
And, don’t stress if nothing happens straight away, it can take awhile!

  • I would make sure your vitamins and iron levels are good and try and maintain a healthy diet throughout

  • Make sure you take a vitamin containing colic acid:)

  • Any pregnancy vitamins are always good fro pre-conception care too.

  • I started on elivit as soon as I was trying to conceive and still take it now I’m breastfeeding. Hubby took Zinc for healthy sperm :)

  • My gp highly recommended Elevit for me and it was brilliant through out my pregenancy

  • I took Elevate the whole pregnancy, you might also want to chat to your GP as well.

  • Folic acid for mum to be and just a good general diet. 85% good (boring and healthy) and 15% tasty yummy nice. Easy on the beer and wine for both.

  • I think there are many different opinions but when I went to have my first child my Doctor was very big on simply eating a healthy diet. he didnt believe in taking extra vitmains and such unless you needed them. He did blood tests and told me that my levels in all things were perfect and not to worry about taking tablets of any kind. he would test me monthly during my pregnancy and said that I never needed anything. My baby was very healthy.

My 2nd pregnancy and a different Doctor and i was put on Iron tablets which were a nightmare. I became seriously constipated and ended up hemmoroids because of it. No amount of changing my diet helped with the constipation, heartburn and just plain feeling uncomfortable i felt.

Baby #3 and i refused to take Iron but i did take folate. My pregnancy was much better.

    All my kids were/are helathy

  • Maybe talk to a pharmacist, they have knowledge & usually updated 2 new products.

  • Through my 4 pregnancies I had elvite and they are fantastic.

  • Make sure you take frolic acid:)
