Hello!

My husband arrives home from work starving & starts grazing before dinner. He has just moved from an outdoor job to an office job and still has lunch around 11.30 each day because of his early start. By the time he gets home at 5pm he is starving. He packs quite a good lunch and enough snacks and drinks plenty of water but when he gets home he wants chips, cakes, biscuits etc…I have stopped buying packets of chips and biscuits to reduce these products from his diet. But he says he needs something. What do other Hubbies eat to satisfy their hunger until dinner is ready? Any ideas would be welcome!

  • My husband is the same. Some days I don’t care but some days I tell him not to eat anything because dinner will be ready in a few minutes. Is there something wrong with him eating chips etc? Maybe have crackers and dip for him. Otherwise If he is craving the chips or whatever let him have them.

  • we usually find drinks are better especially when milk based because they tend to fill. like a banana smoothy or even chocolate milk.

  • Fruit would be best. However, if he’s like my hubby, he snacks and then isn’t hungry at tea time. Tell him to man up and wait!

  • A handful of nuts will keep him full till dinner (I hope).

  • My hubby just had 6 months off work due to illness. He was like this, just smacked all dsy. Ended up putting on 12kgs in 2 months and the dr suggested he might like to slow down

  • can you maybe prepare dinner a bit earlier? or cook up some meals freeze them and he can eat them as soon as he gets home.

  • Mine uses beer… but that is not a good solution so can’t be of any help.

  • When my partner was working I’d make 2 sandwiches for him for when he got home.
It was enough to keep his hunger at bay until dinner time.
Anything much more & he wouldn’t eat all his dinner.
Mix it up with different kinds of sandwiches, sometimes toast them, buy different cold cuts, that sort of thing.
    Hope this helps :)

  • My hubby was the same … I found if I had a small muffin or a couple of biscuits out for him then he would have that and then stop.

  • Large fruit bowl, celery and carrot sticks in fridge, large jug of iced water waiting for him, try and have dinner as early as possible, it may mean that he has a late supper but make it healthy, it will take time to adjust to meal times, also if he has gone from a physical job to a sedentary job there will be some adjustment as he will be wanting to eat more, but he probably does not require the amount. be patient.

  • I have carrot sticks and other veggies and humus dip set out for when he arrives and this tides mine over in till dinner

  • Have cut up some carrots or celery. Mine does the same so I try and have dinner ready. But he grazes after.

  • We have a similar situation in our house but my husband is a bike rider and so when he comes home he is hungry as he’s just rode for 30 mins to get home. I dont mind the biscuits and stuff he has as he has a simple taste and is happy with homebrand but I sometimes make cheap biscuits too. He likes to snack after dinner too it’s just something that he has always done as he’s always been a growing boy it’s nothing he’s going to outgrow soon LOL

  • Maybe just eat dinner at 5 when he gets home.

  • Fruit fruit and more fruit. Dried fruit. If you have time bake some healthy snacks.
