  • We have been whale watching from Hervey Bay. Admittedly a long time ago but it was fantastic. The waters are quite calm here so less chance of becoming seasick. We saw lots of humpback whales. My kids loved it.

  • The best place I ever went Whale watching was in Warnambool in Victoria. It was quite a while ago but it was free and I assume it still is. I think you have to go at the right times though as they aren’t always there.

  • My daughter went dolphin watching at Port Macquarie last February and loved it. She said the dolphins were swimming alongside the boat.

  • I would love to go whale watching,it would be an amazing experience! Hopefully in the future soon!

  • I went about 10 years ago at Nelson Bay (NSW). From what I can remember, it was a little underwhelming.

  • Hervey Bay, Queensland has a lot of whale watch operators at various costs for part day and full day cruises. My son went on a fast cat boat as part of their school camp agenda and loved it. They had a number of whales that came right up to the boat and played around for quite a while, along with dolphins and other marine life. A few years back, we were anchored fishing in our dinghy and a mother and calf went right by us. An incredible experience.

  • Hope you find a good whale watching cruise if you head up to Nelson Bay. Some of the motels also offer a discount for the cruises too. Happy holiday!

  • I went like five years ago so can’t remember the costs think it was around $100, it was freezing and windy out there so make sure you rug up with a beanie and scarf! It was lovely but at the same time we could only go a certain distance near the whales (not too close) so to me it was still a bit far off to see properly :(

  • Oh gee, it was years ago and I don’t remember the details. But I do remember it was wonderful to see whales so close.

  • Thanks Ashblonde! Will look into Nelson Bay – wonderful tip. Have a wonderful trip and time. :)

  • Nelson Bay NSW has several boats that offer cruises for whale watching & they all vary in prices, we are planning a trip up there in a fortnight & hoping for a close up with one!

  • It is next on my bucket list and I am keen to hear about Mom’s experiences of whale watching. Will be ticking this off my list sooner rather than later! :)

  • No I haven’t, wouldn’t it be lovely to do though? One more thing to add to my bucket list, it’s getting a bit long, I really should start doing it. I’ve heard Queensland, Northern, is the best place for it. I’ve seen a few businesses that do it up that way
