Hello!

I had a really bad perianal abcess when I was 6 months pregnant with my first child. I had a spinal block (scary!!) to have it surgically treated, but no antibiotics afterwards – because I was pregnant! Unfortunately it re-infected again a month later and I ended up being treated on a trolley in the antenatal ward with just a local anaesthetic, but a course of antibiotics to follow. Being so close to my due date I was so petrified I wouldn’t be able to give birth naturally due to the pressure on the wound and it bursting open again with the risk of infecting bub, but thanks to the AB, it cleared and healed just in time and bubs birth was perfect. Has any other mums experienced the same? or another serious infection while pregnant?

  • No, I’ve never had one of these, they sound horrific. Very painful. I didn’t have any infections during or soon after pregnancy, thank goodness
