Hello!

We had a kambrook microwave for the last 10 years and I hate to admit I became more reliant on it than I would have liked. After noticing some issues with it recently we found out it was recalled so we returned it to where we bought it from.
We haven’t bought a new microwave yet and now we don’t have one I’m wondering if we should just ditch one altogether. I’ve stayed somewhere for a few months where they didn’t have a microwave and survived (it was a hassle reheating things though).
Has anybody who was reliant on a microwave gotten rid of one and never looked back? Or did you regret it and end up buying another one?

  • Although I don’t use my microwave on a daily basis, I find it so useful for reheating meals or drinks. They are so reasonably priced that I feel they pay for themselves in the first month!

  • I only use my Microwave to heat up things and sometimes cook the odd vegies

  • I only use mine to heat the wheat bag up and to reheat food when needed. Have never used it to cook.

  • My MIL does not own a microwave, heating things like wheat bags is impossible and so she has a hot water bottle instead. Defrosting things has to be done over the day/night and if she forgets to pull something out, to bad. She has never liked microwaves but honestly I couldn’t live without mine

  • I cannot do without mine. I know this from the fact that the 10 days without one when my old one died, were the longest 10days of my life. They not only help me feed my turdlers quickly, but heat up wheat bags in winter – so to avoid HANGRY kids and cold beds, they are essential! plus you can get smaller size ones now that dont take up half the bench top but have standard size diameter dish inside.

  • We’ve always had a microwave and defiantly would be lost without it. Even though I don’t use constantly, I think my kids would be more upset not having one then me as they enjoy their regular mug in a cup mixes. Even my husband has a cheap one in his shed that he uses.

  • I grew up without a microwave and I can tell you now, it was tough. Reheating in the iven made all the food dry, we couldnt eat easy quickly made food because we would have to use a pot and then clean up pans that really left a mark. I moved out to a friends and I cannot tell you how amazing having a microwave really is.

  • I am thinking further, if you have a stove, then you could easily reheat food on it. Some stove tops like the new ones are pretty quick and you will be able to heat up food a lot more evenly.

  • I don’t think I could go without my microwave I use it daily ! Meal prep re heating my coffee multiple times of a morning lol it’s a life saver most days

  • We have had a microwave for 38 years since the arrival of child number 2. It is used for most vegetables – fresh and frozen – and thawing and reheating meals/leftovers. Also used to defrost bread, totillas, etc as I freeze everything to keep them fresh. My daughter changed to a steam oven which is okay but definitely not as fast and I miss the microwave when I go to visit. Our 2 – Sharp and LG – have been excellent. It is essential to keep it clean which also stops the lingering smells.

  • You don’t NEED one, but boy are they handy to have. I went on a health kick years ago and actually got rid of mine and did without for a couole of years. If you plan meals ahead, you’ll never need it. Also have time to cook everything on the stove. You won’t need it. But I have one again and use it so often.

  • I’ve done it, for years and it wasn’t much of an inconvenience, really. But with a baby coming I found that having one definitely made a lot of things easier. I don’t see myself with one again for a long while … maybe when he grows up and moves out I can go back to not having one ????

  • Love my microwave would never get rid of it

  • We haven’t had one for over 7 years and I don’t regret it. It’s easy to make things on the stove. I have space where an ugly appliance used to be.

  • A microwave is a quick and convenient way to Cook, defrost and reheat. This is what i prefer about them. If your Happy to do it other ways then dont get another. But i personally prefer to have mine.
