Hello!

The other day in the shopping center, I was loaded up with kids and a full trolley and walked towards a travelator. I vaguely heard a man say “it’s not working” but assumed that he was talking to his wife. I quickly realised that he was referring to the travelator. I apologised for being rude and ignoring him as I was in my own world. We had a little chat while we waited for it to get turned back on. If things had been different and I just got on the elevator instead (which is right next to it) this man might have thought that I was being rude. So assumptions can also be wrong. Does this sort of thing happen to you? Do you think that you would have thought I was rude initially?

  • These things just happen, we do not always understand each other exactly. I don’t think he would have thought you were being rude and if so than he would have been quick to interpret; in which case you can clarify yourself. Don’t worry too much about this, happens to us all.

  • I would probably have just thought you were distracted by your kids.

  • I am socially retarded, so awkward social situations are a daily occurrence with me. I’m used to them so I don’t get so embarrassed now a days

  • Awkward social situations happen to me regularly. I tend to have a mouth that goes into gear before my brain, which results in some embarrassing situations. Not nasty ones, but they’re still suffered lol

  • too many to count and they all include alcohol!

  • I think you have simply over thought the whole situation

  • If I was that man, I would have assumed that you hadn’t heard me.

  • I think you are overthinking it – relax, he is a stranger, and wouldn’t have given you another thought :)

  • I would have assumed that you didn’t hear me. I know there are times when I’m focused on something else or thinking/ daydreaming about something else – I don’t hear what’s going on around me! I wouldn’t worry about it!

  • I would have done the same. ;)

  • I wouldn’t of thought that you were rude.
I’ve had to take 6 kids to the shops, use two trollies and I tend to be in my own world when I’m with the kids.
I’ve ignored so many people without realising that I was being spoken to.

  • No I wouldn’t have thought that you are rude. When I am out with my kids I hardly look at anything other than my kids and where I am going. It was very nice of you to stop to apologies and for a chat.

  • oh thankyou all! you are so lovely and put me at ease!

  • I think it shows what a lovely person you are in the fact you apologized. I don’t come across many people who do that these days!

  • You are not rude and the fact you apologised to him too afterwards shows you care. We all have times where were not paying attention around us we just want to get from A to B as quickly as possible and are in our own world. I would not lose any sleep over it!
