Hello!

We have been battling head lice to no avail. Some one suggested using Coke (the drink). I want to know if anyone has tried it and if it worked

  • Its probably a better idea to go and see your local chemist and ask what they have available. There are lots of great products now that really work. Unfortunately with lice you need to hot wash EVERYTHING ( bedding, clothes and toys they sleep with etc) and vacuum floors. Its a huge job but if you don’t they will just come back.. good luck..

  • You could give it a go. If it doesn’t work there’s no real harm done.

  • I’ve heard of a can of Coke down the loo for a sparkling toilet. And for cleaning up old coins, not left for too long though otherwise the coin can disappear. I saw an egg dropped in some and left for 24 hours. The shell disintegrates and you’re left with a rubbery egg white and yolk. Fascinating! I haven’t heard of it working for nits tho. If you’re struggling, why not give it a go?

  • I want 2 know ifcheap coke would do same job

  • I saw a post of Facebook about this the other day, all g can think of is a sticky mess in the hair. Mind you g have heard all sorts of stories about uses for Coke that makes you wonder why anyone drinks it for pleasure.

  • Coca-cola will basically just give you a sticky head and dry out your hair insanely. I understand the idea behind using an acid to degrade the exoskeleton, but sadly I’ve heard it doesn’t work.

The only sure-fire solution, is a bottle of cheap conditioner, and a fine toothed lice comb.

It will take up to a few hours, but once it’s done, it’s basically done.

Once it’s done, comb the hair daily with the lice comb to ensure no missed louse eggs hatch, and then you’re good to go.

It’s painful (for the parents) and annoying for everyone, but this too shall pass.

    Good luck,

  • No it doesn’t work -just gives you sticky hair! Homebrand conditioner does work though – leave in for about ten minutes then comb out.

  • I’ve never heard of it either but if you’re fighting a never ending battle, anything is worth a shot!

  • I bet it probably would kill the lice but you’d want to wash the hair out really well after. Imagine how sticky that would be.

  • I can’t see why not… we drink it. I’d just make sure you wash it all out and don’t leave in on the head for too long as it is a bit acidic. Let us know if it works!!!
Have you tried soaking their hair in (cheap) hair conditioner for 20 min then combing out? Suffocates the lice and helps the eggs to be combed out. Do it a few nights in a row or weekly for a few weeks. Lice are annoying!

  • Never heard of it, but I bet mums all over Australia are now pouring coke on their kids’ heads!

  • never used at all,but i have found with what ever brand of hedlice treatment you use you have to do it weekly with the wash and tthe comb, as well as wash everything from bedding to dressig gowns and hats used at school once a week at the same time. after three wekks i havent had any problems…

  • Gosh have never heard of that but have heard coke being used in stranger ways so you never know…

  • I’ve never heard of Coke being used to treat headlice but now curious to see if it really does work.

  • I’ve never heard of Coke being used to kill lice, but I think it would be worth a try. It does remove grease and all that.
