We have been battling head lice to no avail. Some one suggested using Coke (the drink). I want to know if anyone has tried it and if it worked

  • I can’t imagine what that would do to help to be honest?

  • Never heard of that before. I would think all you would end up with is a sticky head. Would be interested to know the results if you try it though.

  • Maybe stay with treatments that are gentle on skin and scalp?

  • Coke??? How odd…although my son would probably love it as I won.t let him drink it.

  • What would the acid do to your skin? Burn it? I wouldn’t use it. It’s not even safe if it drips on metal. It strips off any paint and causes rust quite quickly. Would you do that to a person’s scalp. You can actually extinguish a small fire with Coke, but if the fire is on metal at all it will rust out anyway.

  • Lets see, coke has heaps of sugar , plenty of caffeine and lots of carbonated water and acids. . It has been suggested that you can even clean toilets with it . I don’t think I would want that on any scalps and wouldn’t the sugar bring more headlice ..?

  • I have never heard of using coke for head lice. Removing all head lice does take time and ensuring all items in contact with the child’s head get washed and all head lice removed to stop re-infestation. Repeat treatments and care is often needed.

  • No I haven’t tried this remedy. You have to make sure all clothing, bedding (pillows/blankets/doonas), soft furnishings etc are treated as well as all members of the household (including mum and dad). Take all bedding out side and lay/sit in the sun. This really helps.
