  • Drink plenty of water before and after. Massage can release toxins. Make sure you are well hydrated.

  • Never had this, but drinking water is recommended afterwards. I hope it settles quickly. Maybe just coincidence? or if a regular thing then ask massage therapist?

  • The massage might be too much pressure for a particular person’s body. During a deep tissue massage, if the therapist applies too much pressure, it can cause sore muscles, muscle bruising, and increased blood circulation, which may trigger a headache.
Nausea: Because massage deals with and releases toxins from the body, sometimes nausea may occur after treatment. It is not unheard of for clients to feel as though they have an upset stomach in the hours and days after their massage

  • I have heard it’s quite common and nothing to worry about

  • Yes. I have found if I ask them to massage my head and neck, then this elevates the headaches.

  • Yes, I’ve had headaches, nausea and felt like going for a wee even though my bladder is empty. I used to get a deep tissue massage regularly and mentioned it to my masseuse and he said it’s normal. It’s all the tension and toxins being released, as well as de-stressing. He would always give me a bottle of water afterwards and I really needed it as well.

  • It releases toxins so you need to drink a lot of wster.

  • Maybe get this checked by a GP if concerned?

  • No – but I drink plenty of water and rest after massage.

  • I’ve had that problem too. Water helps

  • I have heard of that. Massage does release toxins and stress. Possibly massage not for you! If it’s not making you feel great or even good.!do you have a green tea or cold water afterwards. Is it the oil the massager using. Some oils are very intense. Maybe just neutral oil not a fragrant one in the heated room…

  • I am a beauty therapist & I ALWAYS tell people to drink loads of water after any massage to help remove those toxins from your body. If you don’t there is a very high risk of headaches or migraine. I hope you are feeling ok! x

  • I get therapeutic massages regularly and I never got a headache after a massage. To me it doesn’t look so good. Are you seeing a professional masseur?

  • Definitely! Migraine will set in nearly every time, even after a gentle massage by a reputable physio etc. My worst experiences are from the Asian massage places. Generally, they are students and have very little training.
