My almost 10 month old, ‘mr independent’ has gone on a finger only food diet since deciding that he will no longer be eating with a spoon and is a long way off being able to use one himself. Does anyone have healthy finger food ideas that I can give him for dinner?

  • Zucchini slice, savoury muffins which are full of veggies, pork and apple fingers (pork mice, grated apple, grated carrot, cheese, egg and breadcrumbs shaped into fingers and baked.) Put some purée on toast.

  • Oven fried vegetable chips; cut potato, pumpkin & sweet potato into finger width chips and bake in oven on tray with drizzle of olive oil serve with tomato sauce. Or Tiger toast; peices of toast with vegemite than place thinly cut cheese to form srtips an melt under grill.

  • cut up fruit pieces, make soldier sandwiches, fishfingers nuggetts

  • Banana, Apple, Avacado, Carrots, soft cooked peas, soft cooked broccoli, soft cooked pasta, diced cheese, small cuts of chicken or fish.

  • I sometime put whatever we are having for dinner (ie. cous cous, stew, bolognaise) on some bread or a wrap so that my 10mth old can eat what we are and be independent.

  • My little girl ate most things with her fingers. Meatballs were a favourite as well as corn fritters.

  • fruits and veggies but also maybe like an omelette that you can slice (grate some veggies in). Maybe some soft bread sandwiches.

  • great finger foods are cooked carrot sticks, cooked zucchini sticks, cheese, cooked eggplant sticks – pretty much any veggie can be cut into a stick & cooked so it is soft enough for bub to hold & eat.

  • Avocado slice, Cheese cubes, Tomato and Chicken cubes for dinner would probably work.
