Need advice from other parents. My step daughter is becoming so forgetful when it comes to school and constantly leaving things at school. We have told her that once she takes her jacket or hat of it’s to go straight into her bag. She needs roll on insect repellant due to Mosquitos at the school, so I sent her some in her bag with her name on it on Wednesday, it didn’t come home Thursday or Friday and she has forgotten where she put it. Any advice on how to tackle this maybe in a fun way so it doesn’t sound like mum and dad are harping at her!

  • Sounds like the typical teenager!

  • Hope now that she is going into a new school year, starting to mature a bit, she will get better at remembering things.

  • My husband is just as bad… always loses his keys because he never puts them in the same place!

  • Maybe a reward system. Make a chart with the days of the week on it. write in each day what your bub has to remember. e.g., bring home hat, remember homework. IF she can tick off everything for that day she gets a gold star. if she gets 5 or how ever many gold stars at the end of the week she gets a “prize”. Something like, a lucky dip, bubbles, balloons, lolly or little choc. that seems to keep kids motivated.

  • If her becoming forgetful is a sudden change, I’d be going for a check up with the doctor.

  • Is she forgetful or she jus doesn’t want to do the wk

  • How did you go? :)

  • Hope some of the suggestions below have helped.

  • Not sure – it is so easy for kids to forget things at school as they are too intent on playing with friends to worry about anything else.

  • Maybe a fun note in the lunch box as a reminder – and maybe with a cute picture or message too so that she doesn’t feel like you are always nagging her. Maybe make it a game like leaving something in her jacket pocket so that she needs to find the jacket to check her pocket which might have a new note about her hat ;)

  • would say fish oil tablets

  • maybe she is feeling a little bit of pressure from school and that is why she is being sso forgetful, maybe just try and leave her little nots reminders, make it fun tho so she doesnt have added stress of remembering, also maybe some memory games to build her brain stimulation?

  • It could be a hormonal thing too, she is going through alot of changes at her age

  • My son is very much the same always forgetting things and also where he put them or had them last. We went through about 5 hats and about 10 drink bottles last year. I’ve found a multivitamin with fish oil has helped a lot and having fish for dinner once or twice a week. We have only had 2 hats and one drink bottle this year!

  • try some vitamins that improve memory :)
