Need advice from other parents. My step daughter is becoming so forgetful when it comes to school and constantly leaving things at school. We have told her that once she takes her jacket or hat of it’s to go straight into her bag. She needs roll on insect repellant due to Mosquitos at the school, so I sent her some in her bag with her name on it on Wednesday, it didn’t come home Thursday or Friday and she has forgotten where she put it. Any advice on how to tackle this maybe in a fun way so it doesn’t sound like mum and dad are harping at her!

  • try to encorage her to do some reasing as that helps with lots of different things. also maybe some vitamins designed for that type of thing? if it gets too bad ,maybe worth seeing your doc?

  • I like the suggestion of a check list with small reward for her to work towards.

  • I think there is these books called Magic books that are meant to help with memory

  • Maybe talk to her teacher about a checklist with a reward at the end of the week!

  • How old is she? make a list and let her tick it off when she completes them

  • Give her a list each day of what she has with her, and (providing she doesn’t lose the list!) she can check it at the end of the day and make sure she has everything on it

  • How old is she? Are there consequences when she ‘forgets’ stuff or is it just replaced?
My 7yr old was like that with his hat. He has had to purchase the latest one himself & now puts it in his bag when he takes it off, rather than on top or in a random place..

  • She probably just has a lot on her mind. It’s hard for them to remember sometimes when
they are busy playing and learning. Just be persistant in reminding her to put things in her
bag straight away or even giving it to one of the teachers to look after so even if she does forget her stuff is safe :)

  • Just keep reminding her. It will eventually stick.

  • Try the pocket money thing. If she looses something she looses pocket money too.

  • Not knowing her age this is a little difficult.
I will take it that we are talking about a young child so perhaps make up a chart and each day that she brings home all that she is supposed to then she gets a sticker and once she reaches the goal of doing this for 10 days then she gets a treat. You know your child best so work out things that she would like. A trip to the park, going to the beach, new pack of girly underwear, new t-shirt, etc

  • Depending on her age but I would either send a list with her to school to give to the teacher (hopefully she remembers to give it to her teacher) & then have the teacher double check she has everything before home time or if she is older & has a mobile phone set a reminder in it to collect xxxxx items before heading home.

  • i buy sandwich bags you can write on..i used to put messages on them for my kids and it was a great reminder half way through the day.

  • I s She shy or a bit of a day dreamer? What is her attention span like at School and home and what grade is she in?.A talk with her teacher, to see if she is struggling with any subject would be a good idea.At home find a relaxing quiet time together to just chat. Quite often this approach will help a child open up little by little with any problem she may be having

  • How old is your little girl. I think kids get tired with school and their extra curricular activities and they just tend to forget. I think making sure they get plenty of rest and a reminder should help
