Hello!

My daughter is 4 and has been day time toilet trained since 2 1/2 years old. But nights are so hard and she sleeps so heavy she just doesn’t wake up. Any suggestions?

  • This physiological development isn’t typically complete until 6 years of age. That’s why nighttime bedwetting (enuresis) is common in children up until 5 or 6 years
So I wouldn’t make a big deal from this. Just keep liquid intake low before the night, encourage toilet use before bed and upon waking, use a pull up for the night and let her enjoy a good night sleep. She’ll get there when she’s ready.

  • We woke our children up before we went to bed this did help .

  • Just until we got into the habit – we limited drinks from 4pm. No drinks after dinner at 6pm. No drinks in bed. Toilet before the bath at 6/6:30pm. Toilet again just before sleep at 7pm. We took her to the toilet when we went to bed around 10/11pm. We took her before she woke, she would wake at 7am so we took her around 6am and returned her to bed.

  • Don’t laugh but just before you are due to go to bed, carry her still sleeping to the toilet, out her on still asleep and she might go naturally then put her back to bed, it’s dream weeing.. It should help. Also if you wake I in the middle of the night do the same again, until she starts having dryer nights.

  • My boys were the same. We started taking them to the toilet just before we went to bed around 10:30-11:00pm and after a while they just became dry themselves. Although my youngest who is 4 in July still has pull ups because he has the odd accident but my 1st son was just over 4 once he started having full dry nights he turns 5 next month. Try not to give them drinks right before going to bed :)

  • This is bet wetting, not toilet training. They either grow out of it by the time they get to school, or it ca last until puberty. There is little that you can do about it she will just have to grow out of it. If it is every night I would see a doctor. If not then try waking her before you go to bed and out her on the toilet. I just have a mattress protector and I am waiting for my so to go out f it.

  • My four yr old decided that he did not want to wear nappies at night anymore, so I bought brollie sheets off gumtree and done the usual pee before bed etc and he always sleeps through the night as a heavy sleeper so never gets up but is always dry. He pees as soon as he gets up in morning. So it was a matter of waiting fr him to decide then helping him achieve his goal.

  • I believe the key with day or night toilet training is to be patient and be led by the child I don’t think it’s something you can force the child to do or get angry with them because they do wet the bed.
It will happen and sometimes the night training girls do take longer than boys.

  • Don’t rush her. You would be surprised with how many kids are still in night nappies in the first few years at school. When her night nappy is dry for a week or so you will know she is ready

  • My daughter is the same, we are just sticking to night nappies until she is more ready.

  • some times it takes a lot longer and years with some children. you can limit drinks 2 hours before bed and ensure she goes to the toilet before bed but sometimes they just don’t wake. eventually they will just be patient and never blame them or tell them off as it is not their fault they are not waking up.

  • So encouraging to see these responses – thanks.

  • Make her go to the toilet just before she goes to sleep, then just before you go to bed, wake her up and make her walk to the toilet, its sounds rough, but they go straight back to sleep when they go back to bed and it makes them get used to waking and going to the toilet.

  • make her got to toilet before bed,and before you sleep carry her into toilet.

  • my daughter has just turned 5 and still wears night nappies. Apparently some kids will wet the bed until 6 or 7 and that its completely normal
