Hello!

Acute shyness and not being noticed with wet pants at daycare seems to have reinforced ‘it’s ok’ to wee in your pants. I am at a loss what to do to help my child overcome this and really want to sort it before kindy next year. Should I see a professional? Who would you recommend and why?

  • Really reinforce with childcare and kindy for when he/she starts that this is your priority for the child to be asked to go/be taken to the toilet on the hour. Whether they need to go or not. It’s the habit of going there and getting familiar on perhaps going on their own, or asking. I did this with my daughters childcare. The first few days she had a lot of wet undies, after being reminded to take her on the hour, she didn’t have any. I don’t think there is a need for a professional just yet. Reinforcement should do the trick.

  • There are actually quite a lot of kids who’re in Kindy/Prep who struggle with this. Just put a clean set of clothes in the bag and don’t make too much fuss about it. They’ll grow out of it, I promise :)

  • See a paediatrition or get a referal to an OT. MY SON still wets pants at 5 years old. Kindy and school are use to it though.
