My 3 1/2 yr old boy is fine with doing wee’s and has been for about 6 months now, but when it cones to poo’s he just doesn’t want to use the toilet. He will either hold it for days till he gets pains in the belly then do it in his night nappy or will do little bits in his undies for a couple of days. Help I’m at my whits end with this and so sick of cleaning pooey undies. His answer when I ask him about the toilet is “just because”. What has worked for you?

  • I was lucky, no major toilet training issues. My daughter decided to try using the big toilet without a seat one day….fell in and that set her back a little while. Sounds very unpleasant. Are you making an issue of it.? If so, he could be doing it for attention. Have you tried sitting on a pot/toilet and give him a book to read or game to play? He might end up pooing without realising it

  • We had to bribe with chocolate. Freddo Frog for a number 1 and Tim Tam for a number 2.

  • I think im just a luck mum my 2 1/4 goes to the toilet a fair bit and has been for awhile but I was lucky to have a older son also that lets him sit on his potty when he is going to show him. hope all goes well soon for you just don’t push the issue

  • He might be scared of the toilet so buy a potty chair. Put it in the bathroom. Tell him we will buy something at the shop like a truck etc but lay-buy it or cut something out of a catalogue he likes and put it or the receipt on the fridge. Let him know that when he does his business in the toilet/potty his reward will be that you will both go shopping for that item. Before too long it becomes second nature. I suggest that you buy stickers and a chart you can download these for free for when he continues to do his business and reward him at the end of each week with a treat.

  • Your post is exactly! what I would say about my toilet training issue with my daughter. I’ve done all the books, talks, stickers, rewards, she’s watched me on the toilet since she can remember. She’s capable of going because every so often she does #2’s in the toilet or potty and her & I are both proud, so I’m really frustrated. Sorry no suggestions for you mumma.

  • At the start of toilet training I had this problem. I sat my daughter down and told her there was nothing to be scared about. when she would go I just to hold her hands and say push, good girl etc and give her a high five at the end. What really helped her was seeing me go to the toilet because she realised that its normal and nothing to be embarrassed about. She even held my hands and gave me a high five at the end. hope that helps.

  • my boy prefers to poo in the potty in front of the tv!

  • My daughter was really reserved about poos. She had been doing wees on the toilet happily for a while but would act really embarrassed about poos and wouldn’t do them on the toilet. I only just recently got her to keep doing them on the toilet. She’s nearly 3. I just approached it but trying to catch her when she was about to do one and I’d literally pick her up and rush her to the toilet while telling her positive things about how it’s good to do poos on the toilet and that’s how big girls do it etc and after I got her in time to do a couple on the toilet, praised her lots and she got more comfortable with it. Just like wees she realised its a lot better and comfortable for her to do them in the toilet and has been really good with it since.

  • sorry i don’t have an answer but i really need one i am going through the same problem with my nearly 3 year old daughter :-(
