Hello!

I would love some suggestions with how to help my son not wet the bed. He has just come out of night nappies and we had 3 nights in a row with no accidents, but the last couple of nights we have had a wet bed. Does anyone know how we can help him adjust? He was so proud of himself but now with the set back it seems to have knocked his confidence in not wearing a nappy to bed

  • He will get there. My son had occasional accidents till he was 10 or so
    We did;
    Reduce fluid intake after 6pm
    Take him to the toilet before bed
    Take him to the toilet before we went to bed (between 10-11pm)
    Neutral response
    Involve him in taking off bedding when accidents occured and make clean bed together (and praise him for that)

  • I would consider setting an alarm for him to wake up to and take himself to the loo, he may just have a small bladder or be a heavy sleeper. I wouldn’t limit fluids, just encourage him to get up and go. My six year old gets up at least once per night for the loo.

  • Just keep encouraging him when he gets up to wee

  • Keep in mind that bedwetting can rarely be trained out of kids. I have two (10 and 6) that are still bedwetters and it is something genetic because some of my siblings were bedwetters into teenage years. Unfortunately this is more of a waiting game than anything.

  • Hang in there. He’s just not quite ready yet. Try limiting fluids in the evenings and maybe wake him before you go to bed, to do a wee. Conni make a really good bed pad.

  • He might not be quite ready yet.. just encourage and praise him for doing so well!

  • Any kind of fluid like milk or juice or water gave him one hour before going to bed and in mid night take him to toilet

  • Get rid of the nappies and buy some pull ups, they’re more like undies so less embarrassing. No drinks for a few hours before bed and try waking him to go to the toilet when you go to bed. It’s hard and doesn’t always work, but it will help
