Hello!

I have had 4 kids and am  incontinent now – a cough, a sneeze, even just standing up. I was wondering if any of your mums have dealt with this and what products they use as I am extremely embarrassed to be smelling like urine by the end of the day.  I have started pelvic floor exercises and hopefully that will help but don’t even know where to start with products…

  • Oh you poor thing. Incontinence is an awful thing to live with. Did your pelvic floor exercises make a difference?

  • I had all the mesh and sling surgury and still have the problem. I was put on impramine 25 mg which does help some. But recently with have coughing I was still leaking. They said my pelvic floor bottom was weak. There are specialized physical therapist that deal with this. Good luck.

  • Tena pull up pants. They’re brilliant! No leakage, money smell and no worries about a pad slipping. Stick with the pelvic floor exercises too. And maybe visit a Dr, they may have even more suggestions

  • the pelvic exercises should help, don’t stop doing those.

  • The more kids you have this happens I wear pads all the time now. I buy the ones at Aldi as they are cheap and do the job. go to GP make sure you don’t have a pro lapse. which is you bladder coming out.

  • Ur doing the right thing. Pelvic floor excersize a are great for ur situation.

  • Spunkychick has some great ideas there, I’d definitely be doing those exercises.

  • Definitely continue on with pelvic floor exercises, these are your key to continence! Also classics like ‘Depends’ are what most people go for in terms of products.

  • My gyno put me on tablets that stopped the incontinence, meantime I started pelvic floor exercises. Now i’m off the tablets, and not doing too badly (must try to remember to do the exercises however… they help not just now but when you get older too).

  • poise are the best until you get it under control, its normal you know so don’t stress, pelvis exercises while you are sitting at the computer or eating dinner even driving all help, google them its just a squeeze in the abdominal area but don’t use your stomach muscles. good luck..

  • Gradually increase from 10 – 20 Pelvic Floor crunches three times daily, to 30-50 three times daily.

You can also do squats, just by lowering yourself, into a chair, stop, about 2 cms above the chair. Now squeeze anus tightly, for a few seconds, then lift yourself back up to standing. Do 10 -15 of these, then rest, now another set of 10 -15. As you get stronger, you can do these squats without the chair. Then you can squat deeper.

Finally, bridges combine both of these pelvic squeezes into one exercise. Lie on your back with your feet shoulder width apart and your knees up. Relax your head and shoulders. Squeeze the muscles around the anus and bladder openings as hard as you can. Your rear end should lift off the floor and make a “bridge.” Hold for one second and relax back down to the ground—that is one repetition. You do not need to lift your rear end high, just make sure the squeeze is focused on the pelvic areas. Do not use your legs or arms to lift. Do 12 to 15 repetitions, rest, then do another set of repetitions.

Strengthening the muscles will work. You are a young woman, don’t just be complacent and accept the problem, it may get worse! I hope these exercises become second nature and part of your daily routine.

  • Poise is a good brand for pads and stuff and they have a good variety as well

  • Depend & poise have a great variety of pad to choose from. I would do my pelvic floor exercises 3 times a day for 10 min each, I find these help very much, I often do them in the shower too. Benwah balls are also a good idea to strengthen muscles :)
