Forum Hi Mum’s, my 11 year old daughter negative thoughts?

My daughters thoughts involve a sex movie that she was shown at a “friends” house. I thought I had helped her through it but recently these same girls (whom she is not friends with) were talking about their parents having sex. My daughter now has terrible thoughts that people will try and do it to her and she told me that a little voice keeps telling her over and over that she is horrible for thinking about it. She tells me every thought and how she is feeling but it is breaking my heart to see her like this. I have always been open with her but have sheltered her to this type of media. I have tried to normalise the situation but it hasn’t helped at all. She has told me that the voice tells her that she isn’t good enough and that she wants to not be here! She has stressed to me that she does and but the voice just takes over…do I seek outside help or so I just work through it with her?

  • Yes I think some specialised help would be best in this situation.

  • Take her along to your local GP and have a chat I’m sure he will recommend the best course of action for her.

  • If I was in your situation I would be getting outside help for my child.

  • You need to seek professional help before it gets worse, so sorry she’s struggling so much

  • Please do seek professional help she definitely needs to talk to someone professional

  • I think this issue is so sensitive that seeking outside help is probably wise. This seems a very strong reaction to age inappropriate materal; Id want to be sure nothing else was going on.

  • I would seek professional help. They know what they’re doing :). Trying to sort this out yourself may add too much stress on you both and only make the situation worse.

  • Sounds like you need to seek out some professional help with this one. Hearing voices in her head isn’t a good sign and not one you can fix yourself
