Hello!

I’ve been experiencing hot flushes due to menopause for 2 years now. I’ve heard it can go on for years. I planned to tough it out but they’re really draining. All day every day, waking me regularly through the night. Over whelmingly hot and sweaty. I’m considering seeing my GP and organising hrt. Anyone have personal experience with this? Good and bad stories welcome.

  • I hope you sort medical attention for this. Until you have been tested you are only guessing that its menopause and there are other things that could be causing this that require swift medical intervention.

  • I was on HRT therapy since I was 38yrs old. I started menopause very early because of having a hysterectomy. I would never recommend having HRT to anyone. I learned that when you finish your cycle of menopause because you have been stopping the symptoms they start again for the amount of time you were actually on HRT. So if you’re on it for 20yrs you have another 20yrs of symptoms. My Dr never told me that. If I’d known I wouldn’t have taken them at all. There are natural products you can take. Go onto iHerb app and they sell vitamins, supplements, homeopathic etc remedies. There’s one called Menopause Support, plus you can take Black Cohosh too. It helps greatly as well. It’s up to you but I wouldn’t go the HRT route at all. Plus, it makes you more susceptible to cancers and osteoporosis.

  • I was on HRT from the age of 39 I started menopause very early. I decided when I turned 60 I would stop and so I did. But! No one told me that the amount of time you’re on it is the amount of time it’s going to take for the symptoms of menopause to stop! It started all over again when I stopped. So, please think carefully and ask your Dr every question you can think of about HRT. There are natural things you can take and do to help. I know the symptoms are very uncomfortable but seriously think about it.

  • Happy to report I didn’t resort to medical intervention. I’m still frustrated with the hot flushes and sleepless nights, but I have purchased a few of the below suggestions. Hopefully I’ll see results soon

  • I went through menopause and sure it was no fun but in my opinion just part of life. Hormone treatments are not the best for your body.
You can use daily Maca Powder, Ginseng, St John’s Wort, Red Clover and eat foods that help suppress the symptoms

  • Definitely see your GP before you take anything. HRT is not for everyone.

  • Yes, three years for me, I just rode it out as I had no intention of going onto HRT so I have no experience with it but wish you the best and have you thought about speaking to a naturopath or looking at the Australasian Menopause Management website for options including non hormonal treatments? https://www.menopause.org.au/

  • You could speak to a Pharmacist that stocks natural alternatives to help with Menopause symptoms. I have found that sometimes Pharmacists have much better and successful treatment suggestions than GPs do as they constantly learn about new medications of all types. As with any medication ensure your Pharmacist is aware of your other medication you take, both prescription and non prescription to prevent interactions between them.

  • Never had it. Speak to.your GP some HRT drugs have bad side effects. It’s a matter of risk out weighs benefit. Speak to the GP…Don’t Google to much…Google throws all kind of missinformation at you. I am. A Nurse and try to discourage patients googling unless they have some kind of medical training to weed out the “crap” sry 4 swearing

  • I’ve been through it and it’s not nice. I had to go on HRT but we found that it would cause other problems for me so I decided just to cope with it. Certainly wasn’t easy. I went through it for about 3 years but I made it. I would have loved it if they’d had natural remedies but none were available that I could find.

  • I prefer less invasive treatments and ones that are natural.

  • I had HRT through a hospital programme which unfortunately ended when the manufacturer ceased making the oestrogen and testosterone implants. I then tried several other treatments and the best of these was an oestrogen patch. I have since ceased using the patch only to find that the hot flushes have come back with a vengeance, so it may be preferable to just suffer it through. There is a product from the pharmacy called Macca which is supposed to ease the effects.

  • A couple of great suggestions here. So happy to read about natural alternatives to try before I resort to HRT. I much prefer a natural option then a man made one

  • I am so interested in those sage capsules RonnieDe wrote about!

  • Check out “HappyHealthyYou.com.au” and their product Happy Hormones. It is an awesome natural product that can help with all sorts of hormonal issues. Loads of information on the website too
