Hello!

My daughter who is almost 3, and has always been great sleeper and gone to bed on her own. All of a sudden she wants me to stay with her at bedtime, as well as waking sometimes 2 or 3 times a night and once again wants me to stay with her until settled. Very out of character, we’ve tried rewards, night lights, bribery, speaking firmly and reminding her she’s almost 3, big girl now…. At a loss what to try next, don’t understand where change of routine has come from. Making for a very tired toddler and mum during the days. Baby no. 2 due end of year. Any tips or advice would be appreciated!!!

  • What has changed in your family? She may be experiencing bad dreams. For her to suddenly become so needing of your presence suggests to me that some event has occurred that is resulting in her feeling afraid at night.

  • persistance pays off in this case

  • Try to persist and stick to your routine. Maybe you need to wear her out a bit more through the day so she’ll be physically tired and sleep.

  • I would actually suggest it has something to do with baby no2 arriving soon! They can get more clingy when they know another one is coming!

  • try leaving a door open and a night light on for her

  • My LO has started trying to stay u late to and it becomes extremely difficult putting him down, but I have learnt the hard way by putting him in bed and walking away. If they try to come back out say it is night time pick them up and put them back to bed. It does take a while but does work eventually

  • How is she going now?

  • strange idea I heard from someone else was to try a walkie talkie system where you let her know that you are there and ask what is wrong but keep sending them back to their own bed

  • how is it going now?

  • How is she going now?

  • How are you going with her now?

  • you could sleep with her in her bed for a little while until she’s asleep and then go to yours

  • Say may be scared of something, put a night light in her room and something to cuddle when asleep and she might sleep all the way through the night

  • Hope some of the suggestions below have helped.

  • Oh gosh I hope you manage to get her sorted before the new baby comes.
