Hello!

“How can I encourage my 8 month baby girl to take a dummy? Sometimes when she is hard to soothe, I know a dummy would help. Is it true the brand of dummy can make a difference too? How can I get my baby to take the dummy?”

  • The brand can make a difference, but perhaps she will never take one. It’s not a bad thing – try putting something sweet on it to begin with (provided she’s already on solids)

  • I don’t know if you have been informed by professionals , but dummies are not good for the teeth especially at this type of age. I would talk to the childhood nurse and see if you can find alternatives. As kids get older you want them OFF the dummy not on . Both of mine hated dummies , not sure if it was because they were bottle fed and it was soothing enough . They also liked teething toys and teething bisuits to chew on .

  • Neither of my children would take a dummy and really they didn’t need it. Some kids do and some don’t, if your child doesn’t want it don’t lush it. It is also a hard habit to break later in anyway

  • my kids never did. don’t think you should be making her. there are lots of ways to settle bub, try asking your CHN for help?

  • You could put something on the end of it, to make it taste better than rubber. Try jam or similar.

  • Some babies just do and others just don’t, you can’t force a child to take a dummy

  • I wouldn’t force a dummy on a child, my daughter loves it way too much when she sleeps and it is now so hard to take away from her

  • I just think that it’s one of those things were some bubs will, some bubs won’t. Maybe try different brands with teats that look different.

  • Did they end up taking the dummy in the end?

  • Some babies just simply are not dummy likers.

  • You also have to remember that it will be hard to take the dummy away when they are older

  • How did it go? Did you end up giving your 8 month old a dummy?

  • Try some different brands. I found the avent orthodontic ones best. Some babies just don’t take to a dummy at all. At 8 months it may be a bit hard to introduce a dummy

  • Yes brands do make difference. My daughter only took nuk

  • Keep in mind that dummy’s ruin your Childs teeth it decays them and they rot, good luck :-)
