Hello!

My 34 month old son has this habit of putting his fingers into my mouth for me to suck his fingers for him to go to sleep. Any suggestions on how I can get him to stop this?

  • I would just pull away, distract and teach him different ways to settle

  • Cold turkey. Just bite the bullet and get it over with.

  • if they grow they will reduce it,, keep them busy as well they don’t remember to put their fingers in to the mouth.

  • I’d try the cold turkey way he definitely needs to break the habbit maybe even put something he doesn’t like on ur fingers to show they taste yucky

  • there are some good comments here

  • Have you managed to break the habit?

  • Weird one! Maybe it will just have to be “cold turkey”?

  • I hope you’ve had success

  • It is hard to break some of these habits – what did you try?

  • Any luck with the advice below?

  • Its a habit that eventually they need to break

  • hopefully they’ll grow out of it, mine girls put their hands down my top I think its just a comfort thing and really hoping some day they’ll grow out of it

  • Dont let him put them there, he has formed a habit he needs to get out of.

  • Can’t say that mine ever did that to me. I agree with others below in finding another distraction or keeping your mouth closed.

  • A-Edwards read the question again. The child isn’t sucking on his own fingers. I don’t think giving a 34 month old child a dummy would solve any problems anyway!
