She is nearly 5 and about to start kinder next year. She has been toilet trained for about 2 years now and wets herself at most days, not all. Tips and advice welcome.

  • My daughter was like this also. I would just take her to the toilet more often and thankfully she got used to it and no longer has accidents.

  • Is she occupied or busy when she wets? As this can be common as they are too busy to remember to go to the toilet. Perhaps you could make her go to the toilet every couple of hours to help.

  • You’ve probably already done this but the first thing I’d be doing is checking with your GP or nurse as it could be a medical condition or issue

  • Have you eliminated any other issues that be at play? I know my kids often had accidents in certain situations.

  • Try a sticker reward for going to the toilet after every meal. Make a card up for every week and give you daughter a sticker after she goes to the toilet. This is helping her change a bad habit. After each meal is a easy way for her to take herself off to the toot and relieve herself setting her up for good hygiene give her extra stickers for hand washing and telling you she’s been on her own.

  • She might be distracted playing and not wanting to leave what she’s doing to go to the toilet.
Reward her when she stays dry with lots of praise. You could intice her with a lolly if she stays dry all day and if she stays dry for a whole week say she can pick a toy at the shop.

  • Maybe check with go that there’s no other issues. Otherwise try and use positive reinforcement when she manages to get to the toilet on time and not make a huge deal of the accidents. Often they’re too busy playing. Reinforce it’s ok to leave the game to go to the toilet and come back. Try to make sure if you’re playing with her that you do continue the game afterwards. Much easier than cleaning up a mess. Sometimes going back to times toileting to build confidence might help. Rewards chart might be useful as well. Good luck.
