Hello!

How hard or complicated is it to home school a grade 6 boy? He also has learning difficulties. I feel the school is not right for him.

  • Make sure you seek the relevant advice for your state around the requirements. Your state education department should be able to assist.

  • I admire anyone that homeschool,I think there are so many benefits from this. I would love to follow this story, all the best.

  • Contact the education department for advice. I did home school/distance education as a teenager and my son did grades 11 & 12 the same way. My sons grades improved out of sight, it was unbelievable how much his grades went up

  • Would be interesting to know if you had success with finding information about home schooling.

  • Contact your State Education Department with the child’s details and they will give you advice on how to go about it. I know a little boy who will have to be home schooled because he is allergic to a medication commonly used for pain and inflamation. Skin to skin contact results in severe breathing problems for her small son. He will be home schooled for primary school and a decision made for High School when the time comes.

  • My third child was home schooled due to problems with the school, found it a bit hard at the beginning until we had a schedule arranged. We did this for a few years until he reached yr 10, he is doing well. My 6th child is also being home schooled as he could not adjust to school. I am trying to keep at the same grade as his sister (twin) as think this is best. The school wanted him to come back next year and start school at age 7. Both did prep at home, as his sister would not go without him. This year she was ready to go alone. I belong to a Home school group and we have meetings where children mix plus he attends other social events.
There are different home schooling options including religious ones too.

  • I have heard there is a lot of support networks for home schooling. Maybe link in and get as much information as you can and as much support where you live.

  • When it has your passion and you’re convinced it’s the right thing for your child(ren), you might find it’s actually not hard at all. There are all kind of homeschooling support groups out there.

  • There is a lot of advice from the Home Schooling Network, look up your local group too. I homeschooled my son who is now 17, not that hard if they can read well, just encourage them to learn what they are interested in.Good luck.
